My ipod wet the bed this morning and I had to listen to people rather than music on the train. To make it fun, I wrote down/remembered one word or phrase from each conversation I spied on. - "beach" - "bitter" - "someone else's gun" - "thank you" - "it's not fair" - "Friday" - "ice cream" - "laughed so hard" - "I am going to be late" - "knowwhatimsaying" - "ohio" The last song I was listening to was by the pouges. I love this line: "and lights don't grow on Christmas trees" |

That's "The Pogues", http://www.pogues.com/ was this the last song?
quote:THOUSANDS ARE SAILING (Phil Chevron) The island it is silent now But the ghosts still haunt the waves And the torch lights up a famished man Who fortune could not save Did you work upon the railroad Did you rid the streets of crime Were your dollars from the white house Were they from the five and dime Did the old songs taunt or cheer you And did they still make you cry Did you count the months and years Or did your teardrops quickly dry Ah, no, says he, 'twas not to be On a coffin ship I came here And I never even got so far That they could change my name Thousands are sailing Across the western ocean To a land of opportunity That some of them will never see Fortune prevailing Across the western ocean Their bellies full Their spirits free They'll break the chains of poverty And they'll dance In Manhattan's desert twilight In the death of afternoon We stepped hand in hand on Broadway Like the first man on the moon And "The Blackbird" broke the silence As you whistled it so sweet And in Brendan Behan's footsteps I danced up and down the street Then we said goodnight to Broadway Giving it our best regards Tipped our hats to Mister Cohan Dear old Times Square's favorite bard Then we raised a glass to JFK And a dozen more besides When I got back to my empty room I suppose I must have cried Thousands are sailing Again across the ocean Where the hand of opportunity Draws tickets in a lottery Postcards we're mailing Of sky-blue skies and oceans From rooms the daylight never sees Where lights don't glow on Christmas trees But we dance to the music And we dance Thousands are sailing Across the western ocean Where the hand of opportunity Draws tickets in a lottery Where e'er we go, we celebrate The land that makes us refugees From fear of Priests with empty plates From guilt and weeping effigies And we dance

Yes. By the solar clock I have less than a month until my wife's due date. I am totally fine. This morning I left the house with out my ID and my fly open. Totally in control. We all know that high humidity is the best thing for logical thinking. Last night I had this great idea.....I was going to quit my job and start working as a taxi driver. Well not a taxi driver - more of a car service driver. Why did this sound good? I don't know. Maybe I want to work longer hours and sleep in my car. I met this guy who moved from NYC to some town in New Hampshire. He loves it there. He has to drive a half hour to a target. If target is the best place to go and it's a half hour away - I am not sure if that is a good thing. I can currently walk a mile to just about everything. This weather is so hot. I saw a supermarket worker fall asleep - right in front of my eyes - while stacking cans of soup. Or he was on the nod. Who knows. Well. I have so much on my mind that I forgot I posted the three pictures up there. For a moment I thought, "hey - they look like my memories". Thing is, I took them in 1993 and they are my favorite kind of pictures. They mean nothing to everyone but me. I know exactly how I felt when I took them - what I was wanting to eat, what I was driving - where I was getting the cheep beer. Friends who are gone but still around. It's all there. For me. Somehow. |

Pippi - No not rude. Sure. Just laught at me as I slowly fall apart. ; ) Lucy - Let's not rush time now. I need time to do more stuff. Like...um. IMPORTANT WORKPLACE TIP: if you make a lot of noise when you type - it seems like you are doing much more. I have now taken to hitting the keys just a BIT harder, and everyone thinks I am really busy. Time for a Mojito! |

My brother always answers his work phone in a harassed and annoyed tone, like "who the hell is calling me now I am extremely busy doing important things for VIPs". I told him once that I always thought he was busy when I called, and he said he does it on purpose. |

There is a woman here that literally runs around the office. You can hear here coming. The frantic jing-jing-jingle of coins and tic tacs. I like to just cancel a meeting for no reason and just say - something really hot came up. Yeah. Gotta jump. Customer service. If there were ever two words that were just a lie. To make a long story short, my mortgage co turned a 1 into a 7 on my last payment and tried to get blood from a stone. Two overdraft fees later I am still talking to a woman in India that can't understand my problem. Calgon Calgon take me away. |

Strings! Oh many many places. Right here, in my desk. Or at bunnies, where I just throw a lime and sugar into a miller lite. There is also a place in Millburn on Main Street - I think it's called Martini's or something....they make a good one. I also had one at the Huntley Tavern(e) that knocked my socks off. Good thing I had a few of them, it took the edge off the bill. I feel strange talking about mojitos while I am eating my breakfast. Oatmeal. Again. |

Music - hey that has a ring to it! You might be on to something. Tequila Mockingbird. Is that a guitar or a bass guitar? Oh, and strings - are you ready for September? Having seen david byrne backed by mostly strings - I think you should teach your kids "This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)". I am telling you, the spring recital will be packed. |

I have great news. It seems my boss is leaving at 3.45 today. Looks like I will be out of here at 3.47. Less humidity this weekend my friends! It's time to go outside and enjoy the fresh air. Go to the beach. Have a picnic. Trim that tree that you have been putting off. Make some lemonaide - and mow the lawn. Call that friend of yours that has a convertable corvette and go for a spin. Lay down on the grass and look at the sky. Go up to the reservation and look for that waterfall. Invite your best friend over for BBQ shrimp. Weed the cracks in the sidewalk. Take a bike ride. Stop the ice cream truck guy and get one of them rocket ship pop. Throw a frisbee around. Dust off the slip and slide and slide on down the hill. Watch the sun set and look for fireflies. Eat at an out door cafe. Go up on the roof and clean the gutters - when was the last time you did that? Are the Newark Bears playing at home this weekend - go see them. How about a ferry ride - it's only $3, and if you are a big spender go for the circle line. How about action park! or great adventure! Or crank up the AC and just watch T.V. - someone has to think about the sagging tv rating for daytime summer programming.

I spent the entire morning, and part of the afternoon working out in the yard today. I went to the recycling area to pick up some wood chips to redo the back part of my yard, but they were so disgusting that I packed up my plastic bins, and went home empty handed. Tomorrow I work, at least part of the day, but I do see beer in my future. I recently bought over $400 of beer, wine, and spirits from the ShopRite Liqour store in South Orange, they have to be out of the building by the end of the month, and are having some sales. Now where do I go to get my favorites, Perry always ordered whatever I wanted. Friggin' azzz eminent domain crap. |
