Does anyone know anything about the huge house on Ridgewood right above Montrose (where it dead ends)in SO? I live in one of the houses behind it, which were sub-divided over the grounds, and my modest Cape has a big, overgrown arbor in the backyard that was clearly part of the original estate. We also have some hugely overgrown wisteria dating from the 1860s, I am told, and a stand of cedars. I'd love to see the original plans for the house.

I live near there also. I think that it's actually the Ballantine estate. A few years back there was a rumor that some pro basketball player--from the Knicks, I think--was going to buy it, but I don't know if anything ever came of that.

I grew up in the area and know the Puglisie pool family did own it at one time. I heard that the Mediterranean style home on the property has an indoor pool that leads to an outdoor pool. Is that true?

The property has been divided and the med. house does not, to my knowledge, have a pool. There are about 4 pools on the property of themain house, though.

Hi Deb, - I live in one of the capes behind the estate as well - we are probably neighbors. I back onto their front yard. The Pugliese family recently ( in the past few) years sold the mediteranian and the carriage house behind it. It did not have an indoor pool but it had just about everything else - it was a cross between the arabian nights and a Zsa Zsa Gabor/Liberace nightmaire -white shag rugs - mirrors marbled with gold and smoke effects and white satin EVERYWHERE - I think it did have an indoor fountain. In 10 years in real estate I have NEVER seen anything like it - it did have a very beautiful outdoor pool......

Sarh, You and Deb aren't really neighbors (except maybe back lots ones) The area surrounding the Mansion is huge. The original estate must of been something else!
