Another poster mentioned on a Soapbox thread that the post office was the "ugliest building" in town. I certainly don't disagree with him. I seem to recall someone mentioning to me that there was a big "to do" when they first built this monstrosity. Can any of you old time Maplewoodians relate the story or at least remember what was on the site before the post office? Thanks VoR |

According to a senior speaker at the second PD debate, this was a parkland. Including I think the parking by the train station.

It was the site of a school house and then the library which was housed in the old school building. Check out Kathy Leventhal's postcard collection here on MOL for a picture. Correction: The picture of the school/library is in the Historic Photograph section. Kathy's postcards has a picture of what appears to be the Post Office before it became the post office and was called the Bundal Building. |

Prior to the Maplewood Ave. building, the post office was on Baker St. in one part of the cleaner's. There was a partial partition and you could go to the PO and then walk directly into the cleaner's. PO on left and cleaner's on right. Very small but good service.Childhood memories. |
