I think that map is earlier than 1910. It's difficult to read be cause it isn't N-S aligned but it looks like our area was still forrest at the time the map was drawn. I'm pretty sure that most houses on our street were built over 1906-7 as part of one of the first subdivisions. R

History buffs of Maplewood--take a look at the house that HS Wyllie has drawn just above the "EYE" of the "Birds Eye View" near the bottom. That house was where we lived from 1950-59. BUT, it wasn't located where it's shown. Notice that back in ~1910 Harvard Av. stopped at Oberlin St. After this map was drawn, the hose was actually MOVED to the left--right at the curve (angle) on Oberlin. My family was told about the move when we bought it--for $19,900!!! We bought it from the Dines family, and my father sold it to a Mr. Fields. It's a BIG house.

Wyllie did a great job with his drawing-it is easy to spot things about the house that identify it.

Dan Sachs--presently living/working in Milan, Italy

It wasn't much before 1910. My house, built in 1907, is on the map.

I'm trying to figure out what's what in the map. What is the long road, running from the upper left to middle right? If I could identify a few roads, it would make more sense.

That's the railroad. You can zoom in to see the map in more detail.

BTW...the map is clearly labeled Oct. & Nov. 1910.
