I recently attended a fascinating exhibit about Ingrid Bergman at Scandinavia House in the city. There was a display of programs from plays she had appeared in around the world. One of the programs was from the "Maplewood Theatre" in Maplewood, NJ, where she had starred in a production of "Anna Christie" in September 1941. The program had advertisements for "Ye Olde Village Inn" at 139 S. Orange Ave., where Sunday dinners cost $1. There was another ad for "Crest Drive-In" at the top of S. Orange Ave. in South Orange. The Ingrid Bergman exhibit is on view through July 17th. I highly recommend it. Scandinavia House is at 58 Park Avenue at 38th Street. Admission tickets are $3. The Website is www.scandinaviahouse.org |

Was the Crest Drive Inn at the site of the old Grunning's? Or was actually on Crest Drive near the old fire house? |
