Hi,

My name is John Havens and I've just moved to Maplewood. Besides being a freelance writer, I've been a professional actor for over 12 years (principal roles on Broadway, TV and film). I've published a book on the business of acting, and have taught classes (both private and group settings). I was wondering if anyone thought a private acting coach would be of interest for folks in Maplewood and the surrounding areas, and if so, what would be good to charge? In NYC my going rate was $50/hr. I know there are lots of great acting schools in the area, so I'm also thinking about approaching them.

Any thoughts or advice you have on this subject would be welcome.

Welcome John. You will find lots of actors around Maplewood. You should think about coming to the Professionals in Media meetings. Lots of folks who work in lots of disciplines.

My coach is in NYC. I think most people have the unintended prejudice that somehow working with a coach on the other side of the river makes a difference. It doesnt. It just happens to work out that way for alot of folks.

Might want to browse the New Jersey Theater Alliance website if you haven't already.

Welcome and good luck!
