Looking to make some last minute travel plans and, hopefully, get a good deal. There are so many sites, and I really don't know a thing about how reliable they are. Would love to hear about any experiences anyone might have had: both good and bad.

For hotel reviews particularly, I am totally addicted to TripAdvisor. You'll find a thousand plus hotels in the major cities, often with dozens of reviews. Some of the reviewers are obviously complete cranks, but you can still get a very good sense of what a place is like.
For airfares, I always check Sidestep.com. It once turned up a great fare to Italy that my travel agent had missed.

I did find TripAdvisor.com when I was looking for info about a particular family-friendly resort in Jamaica. Seems like it had lots of good reviews (for what it is) so I was encouraged. Looking to possibly book a total package in one spot, and I don't know if some sites are better than others.

Have you ever actually booked anything through TripAdvisor?

I've never booked a total package with them, but I've found really really good deals on hotel rooms from hotels.com.

Tripadvisor doesn't book directly - if you are looking at a hotel there's a little button that says "Quick Check" and if you click it it will bring up the current offers for that hotel at every website that is selling that hotel. Sometimes it amazes me the variety in room prices for the same hotel.
Tripadvisor is always my first stop when checking out a new hotel. For booking I use Orbitz, Expedia, hotels.com and priceline (not the name your price feature but the regular booking).

For last minute package deals, I like www.site59.com. For last minute hotel, www.hotels.com, or calling the hotel directly (usually same result, but hotels.com is a little more convenient). Both websites are non-refundable, no changes.

For best deals on all inclusives you should book through a travel agent.
