Has anyone been there recently? It's georgous! They de-clttered the whole store and REALLY cleaned it up. Looks bigger and brighter. More like a new store.

I've occasionaly gone there off hours because it's 24 hour (I live my night schedule even when not working) but have always preferred the A&P in Kenilworth because it seemed cleaner. Must be new management.

I go there several times a month to stock up. I also think their produce dept. is pretty good.

Just went there this morning, didn't notice it was any bigger, brighter or cleaner than it's ever been. I've always preferred that one to the one in S.O. Also because it's open 24 hours.

My experience this morning was less than stellar though. Some guy got on the express lane--12 items only--with at least twice that much; the girl at the checkout couldn't have been any slower; and she had no idea what celery was?!? I'm sorry, but isn't celery a pretty basic vegetable! Usually it's much better than it was this a.m.

Mr. T. it's on the Westbound side of 22, in the same shopping center as Best Buys, Ruby Tuesdays and National Wholesale Liquidators. I take Liberty Avenue to the end and go in the back way.

Oh, yeah, I know where you mean. Is it that much better than the one in S/O that I should drive all the way there? I guess I can combine it with a trip to CostCo. Or to Bobs.

I guess it depends on how much you hate the one in S.O. I think it's definately better. The store is bigger, so it carries a bit more of a selection. The produce department is much nicer, and it is brighter and cleaner. The deli department is way nicer and the people are never surly (whereas it seems the deli folks in S.O. are nothing but), and there's generally a much shorter wait. The folks at the customer service counter are very pleasant as well (can't say the same for S.O.). There's more parking and, overall, fewer people in the store at any given time. I've never seen a line in Union like the lines I've seen in S.O. However, when I was there this morning I did think to myself it would be nice if they'd get the self-checkout lanes like they have in S.O.

I live in Maplewood, so it's closer for me than it would be for someone coming from S.O., obviously. Don't know where you live, but that could be a factor for you.

I've heard a Costco is coming to Springfield Ave. over at the golf range. How's that sound for shopping convenience?

Meandtheboys:
I hadn't been there for a while so the 'changes' I'm noticing aren't necessarily recent. The aisles are pretty much clear of the million freestanding displays I remember them having, and the entrance way glass walls have been stripped of posters and stuff. Maybe I missed a spring cleaning somewhere along the way. I do like the store.

how is the meat/fish department at the pathmark on 22?
one of the things i don't like about the pathmark in SO is how their meat and fish doesn't seem fresh to me.
is the one on 22 better?

more important than meat or fish: are the women working and shopping there good-looking? how's the music they play? the music in S/O Pathmark used to be great but now it's the same shite as in every other elvator.

Scully, I figured it might have been a while since you were there. It must have been a long while, because I've been going there for a couple of years and nothing's changed in the time I've been going!

Lou, can't comment on the meat department because I don't eat it. But by appearances it certainly looks nicer, and bigger and more open, just like the rest of the store. The fish seems fine. I think I've probably only ever gotten salmon or shrimp.

Mr. T, the women working and shopping there are no better or worse looking than the ones in S.O and I've never really paid very close attention to the music. Although, I'm sure if it was really, really bad or really, really good, I would have noticed.
