My mother (age 70) and my daughter (age 11) take a trip together every summer. They're looking for ideas for this year. They're both active, but neither are camping types. We know about elderhostel, grandtravel, etc., but are looking for specific trip suggestions. (Favorites so far: cruise, marine biology camp.) Thanks! |

My first suggestion would be Elderhostel's inter-generational offerings. There seems to be more each year. We did the one at Eckerd's college in St. Pete's Beach with a 10 year old a couple of years ago - excellent experience. On an independent level, we took 2 grand daughters to Mohonk Mountain House in November - very pricey, but IOHO, a priceless experience for us. We enjoy cruises and I think it would be an excellent choice with a child. Lots of fun activities for all ages on ships. Picking a destination, however, has me stumped. Do kids like island visits? My first thought would be the Panama Canal for educational value. Hope people keep the suggestions coming, we're always on the lookout too! |

We did two cruises, one to the Bahamas and one to Canada. Both were big hits. it's really about the boat for the kids. |
