Does anyone know what happened to the Blue Moon Diner? I drove by a week ago and noticed the windows were papered up. |

They have gone through a couple of ownership changes - but I noticed a sign last week that said "Village Diner" in the window as I drove by. |

I went to the former site today. A great deal of thought, effort and money has gone into making the place attractive. Manny says look for an opening in about 10 days. |

Hopefully the new ownership will bring new life into the diner. |

Stopped by this week: The menu looks great. Hours will be 5:30AM to 10PM, to start with. MAJOR improvement in the interior look, all new top-of-the-line kitchen gear coming, and even a new walk-in fridge. And they'll keep the mural under the trestle, too! BTW, it turns out that the owner is related to the owner of South Orange Ave's "Texas Wieners". Bottom line so far: If I were a betting man (and I am), I'd say that Village Diner looks like a winner. -s. |

Looking forward to it! Minor nit: Do they have a new solution on where to store the dumpsters?? I'm tired of seeing them on the sidewalk. |

Will they deliver? We plan to give them a try for lunch delivery, and see how it works out. Maybe we'll end up alternating between them and the PArkwood! |

Considering Soda also BET on "Wish" in West Orange and the Town Hall Deli, I hope the Village Diner succeeds in spite of him. |

OK, assuming you're correct, let me now offer a long-overdue appreciation of one of my favorite local eateries: Bunny's Ristorante... Operated by the always classy Leslie Pogany and her charming, witty, semi-handsome, and (God knows) politically astute accountant husband John, this festively decorated bar/pizzeria has been a staple in South Orange for decades now. What started as a simple tavern serving bar pies and hearty workmen's lunches has expanded both physically and menu-wise into a cozy multi-space haven, where the quality-savvy drinking and eating public of our town regularly flocks, enjoying pre and post game pizza, top brands of alchohol, many bottled and fresh-tapped beers, and a creative and varied Italian menu with daily specials. Aside from the eagerly-awaited annual Holiday Freebie Buffet (in appreciation of well-earned customer loyalty), the Poganys also generously sponsor local Little Leaguers and provide a relaxed venue for MOL "face to face" gatherings as well. Perhaps my personal favorite Bunny's offering (alas, I no longer indulge in it on orders from my doctor) is their excellent and remarkably affordable All-You-Can-Eat Pizza Buffet Lunch. In addition to a never-ending supply of variously-topped pizza pies, one enjoys the famous Bunny's Garlic Salad and a beverage, frequently in the company of many of South Orange's most illustrious and discriminating citizens. Yum. Summarizing, this local landmark is a "must" when you feel like some good cheer, tasty pizza, and warm hospitality, just steps the train, Sloan Street, or our soon-to-open SOPAC. See you at Bunny's! -s. |

The one thing I'm a bit sad about is that they're changing the name of the place; so, (although Kevin O'Connell's fabulous mural on the outside wall will remain) that wonderful "Blue Moon" sign will have to go. I've seen what I believe will be the place's new logo, etched into the glass of the vestibule. Very blah. I can only hope that maybe they've got something a bit cooler in mind for the new sign? -s. BTW, Crazy: I thought of "weiner", but decided it'd be too obvious. |

I believe the new owner is doing everything possible to get rid of any connection to the last owner. And rightfully so. |
