Went for Valentine's Day Dinner. Three seatings, we got in at 8. Not really crowded, which surprised me because I had heard how hot the place was. The fixed price menu was a little boring with Grouper, Chicken and Lamb as entree choices (I had been led to believe the place has Spanish flare)and not well executed at all. I was disappointed. The wait staff was cheerful, professional and attentive, but that was the best of it. Paid $188 pre-tip with a $35 bottle of wine. I may try it again on a regular night, but then again I may not.

Has anyone else had an experience there?

yikes - that's a lot of money to pay for a disappointing meal.

My wife and I tried Voro a while ago - it was okay. Not great, but not bad.

We've enjoyed it on multiple visits. Pricey, but good. My favorites are the hazelnut crusted salmon and some of the tapas.

I'm generally dubious of fixed price menus. Honestly, I have had some of my worst experiences with good restaurants on major dining out days (i.e. my one inferior steak at Strip House was on Father's Day).

Best of luck next time, if you try again.

For $188 or less before tip, you can get alot of good throwdown at a variety of eateries and not have to say it was pretty good.

Meandtheboys,

Fair enough...let me be more specific. Fixed price menus at places that don't usually offer them raise my concerns. Places that do them routinely are a different story.

Prix Fixe menus at fine establishments are usually incredibly rewarding (case in point: the French Laundry, Gramercy Park Tavern, etc.) But generally my rule is to stay away from prix fixes at just okay establishments that don't usually offer them, especially on Valentine's Day or New Year's. Those holidays seem to be amateur nights and I find that the food is almost always disappointing -- unimaginative dishes (molten chocolate cake anyone?) and way overpriced for what it is. Restauranteurs know that no matter what they serve on those nights there will probably be an audience because everyone feels compelled to go out on those holidays. That's why my husband & I usually cook a special dinner at home on Valentine's Day and go out on the night before or the night after. We only recently learned that those are supposedly the nights married men take out their mistresses for V Day. Too funny. All the waiters must think I'm some floozy my husband is running around with!
