Has anyone been to Papillon on Valley near the liquor store? Their menu is posted outside & they seem to have a nice variety of offerings. If you've been, is there a dress code? I noticed a sign on the door about "Proper Attire". |

I have been there a few times, with mixed reviews, food has been fantastic with horrible service or vice versa. There is a dress code, and you will be turned away if you are not properly dressed. |

I have been there a number of times, for lunch and for dinner. The food and drink have been good each time. The inconsistency of the service has been puzzling and irritating. |

I've been there a few times, but it isn't one of our favorites. Mixed opinions on the food, which has ranged from excellent to mediocre. Service is sometimes undertrained. Fancy drink menu is endless (and fun). Dress code is enforced. A few years ago, we were denied service in a serious downpour because my husband decided because my husband decided to leave his good dress shoes at home, and wear navy athletic shoes. (yeah, I know, I've told the story before, but he asked!) Let us know how you like it if you go. We haven't tried again in a while (we go to Village Cellar, Voro, Arugula, Niecy's etc. instead when we want upscale). |

We always liked Papillon's. We've only been a few times, but the food was good and the service was good enough so that it didn't stand out as being lax.

Probably won't go since hubby's idea of dressed up is a pair of clean jeans & sneakers. I was sort of hoping that they wouldn't have such stringent dress rules. |

Had the same thing happen when we tried to go in for drinks. We were well-dressed with brand new sneakers (brand new, fashiony Pumas for me and black prada sneakers for him) and they turned us away at 6:30pm when there was no one at the bar. We never went back. |

I've been there to sit at the bar and have a few drinks and I like the place. Only had bar food and I thought that was quite good. |

Being checked out from head to toe and turned away. Ah, sounds uplifting. Somehow reminds me of bouncers with no teeth turning you away at Studio 54-type places in the olden days, or Lutece type restuarants with frosty hostess ready to bust your chops. Like taking an admissions test. No thank you. Just thinking that Highlawn requires gentlemen to wear jackets in the dining room (no such requirement for bar). Don't remember footwear requirement. Overall, I prefer more of a come as you are attitude. Business must be good for them. |

I have been there several times and have always worn jeans. Never sneakers though. Always had a good meal. Highlawn requires a jacket and no sneakers.

I don't mind a dress code at all. There are more than enough places without a dress code at all - other than requiring you actuall WEAR a shirt and shoes. I like knowing there is a place where I can get dressed up and not feel out of place. I also think the food a Pappillion is some of the best in SO/M |

Pappillion: I don't usually wear jeans unless I'm at home. (No nose up, just the facts.) Went and had to sit at the bar. Really fun drink menu. I think I had a Cajun Martini (HOT!) The other people at the bar were friendly and we had a good time talking and waiting for a table. The food was good, but at that point I wasn't feeling particularly particular. I'll go back. J.B. |
