This July or August, I'm looking to spend a week at a resort that would work well for a single parent and two kids, aged 5 and 11. Something with kids' programs and a nice atmosphere for me, as well. Would prefer driving distance, though I am willing to fly for something really good. Not Caribbean/Florida, since we are going there earlier in the summer to see family. Thanks!

Most of the Vermont ski resorts have summer programs for the kids with all kinds of activity programs. Bike riding, kayaking, canoeing, horseback riding, tennis, swimming (pools or lake), etc are available at almost every one of them (with supervision for kids if desired).

Has anyone had experience at any of these? Positive/negative?

the tyler place is the absolute best of the bunch, for my money. that said, it's pricey, as most of these places are.

We have been to smugglers notch. Definitely has a lot of kid's programs. It is 15 minutes to Stowe where there are several good restaurants. Also, it is less than 2 hours from Montreal so you can do a day trip there too. Biggest drawback is that it is about a 7 hour drive from here.

Tyler Place makes it real clear on their homepage that it's not a single-parent kind of place. But thanks.

I know you said you didn't want Caribbean...but Club Med at Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) is great for families with kids. Lots of other single parents there and tons for kids to do. Kids can go do their thing and you can doze on the beach, sail, read, mingle, play tennis and/or drink. The food is better than most all-inclusive resorts, too.

A co-worker of mine spent four nights here this past weekend, and was raving about it. I've been mulling it over, but haven't made a decision. It looks like pretty good value, and isn't that far away.
