Has anyone been to Niecy's that can help me understand something?
Twice, now, we've been here and each time, half the menu was not available. Not as in "we don't make that dish on Fridays", but rather "we ran out or we just don't have it." It was only about 6:30 in the evening.
I ordered one thing and the waitress came out a few minutes later to tell me they didn't have it. She suggested something else, and I took her recommendation. A few minutes lter, she comes out to say that they didn't have that, either!
In addition, they had no saldad because the lettuce shipment didn't come. C'mon! Lettuce?! Go to the supermarket, already, it's right down the street!
I always hear good things about them, yet this has happened each time we've gone.
Niecy came out into the dining area, but never even came over to apologize. How do they keep a good rep?

Ooooh, glad I read your post. I've been asking hubby to try our local spots more regularly, and haven't been to Niecey's since she relocated. Thanks for the heads up!

The only other place I have seen like that is Heart and Soul. Maybe it is the type of cuisine

OK, just for the record, I've stated a few times now that I find Niecy's not very good. Yes, we have had the same problems with dishes being sold out but later in the evening than 6:30 -- who eats that early anyway? To compare H&S with Niecy's is outrageous in my opinion. I feel that each dish is lovingly cared for at H&S rather than at Niecy's where the food is just sorta ehhh...barely alright...If I'm lucky. H&S is doing MANY things right, Niecy's isn't worth my 4th visit. Sorry but 3 strikes you're out.

Now begin ALL THE RAVE REVIEWS from everyone else on MOL about how PHENOMENAL Niecy's is. Watch.

Well I'm going to SHOCK you Allegater by disagreeing with you. Niecy's is phenomenal, in my opinion. As I've stated several times. Always had excellent meals there, and have had several great conversations with Niecy.

I've eaten at Niecy's probably 15 times, counting takeout, and the only "outage" I've experienced was when meatloaf was dropped from the menu for a long stretch.

I have had several excellent takeout meals at Heart & Soul, but we eventually got tired of always having to call to find out what was for sale that particular night, or if the place was even open. Several times they were out of things on the limited menu, or just ran out of food altogether.

As for ambience.... I'm not sure anyone would argue H&S wins in that department.

I think both should be able to thrive in town.

Jesse at H&S could cook a transmission and it would be great, so the limited menu doesn't bother me.

My wife cooked the engine on our old Volvo. It cost $2G's to replace, in 1982 dollars. I needed a Bromo.

-s.

BTW: If Jesse had cooked Adam's Rib, Eve woulda been quite a dish.

I believe that Jesse is trying to come up with a menu of his bestsellers that doesn't change daily. He will also have daily specials.

Niecy's...I was excited when they opened in that huge space, but tried it four times and couldn't find any entree or side that I really enjoyed. It was average every time, and have not gone there in over a year.

Also, I never experienced a food outage at Niecy's like I have at H&S (many times because I call late). Jesse buys and cooks fresh daily. He also doesn't have a huge budget, so any food that doesn't sell really hurts him. It is better for him to sell out rather than waste food until he builds up enough steady business so he can afford a bit of waste....Then again, I have called a number of times ready to place an order and didn't because there wasn't anything that I was interested in eating.

Cmonty, your always there to counteract my scathing reviews of Niecy's.
