I'm looking for a top-notch NYC meal at a restaurant I've never been to. Has anyone been to any of these? Feedback is appreciated. Prune Veritas Craft Inoteca Impero Del Posto

I have been to Craft and 'inoteca. Very different. 'inoteca is much more casual and rustic, with excellent wine and less fancy (but yummy) food. Craft was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had, both for the food and the atmosphere. |

Veritas is my (and my husband's) favorite restaurant. If you are into wine, they have a superb wine list and their food is excellent. We usually like to go and sit/eat at the bar. It is a bit less $$ that way, as it is not a pre-fixed menu when you sit at the bar. The short ribs are out of this world! I've heard excellent things about Impero, but have not yet made it there. |

I really like Craft. There is a review in the Times today of Del Posto. I plan to wait a little while longer before trying it out. |

Thanks for the feedback. Pippi & Eliz: I'm intrigued by Craft, but it seems like it would be very easy to run up a gargantuan bill there. Any thoughts? |

oh yeah, it's definitely expensive...but worth it for a special occasion. Not to add any more suggestions to your already-formidable list, but I've been meaning to try Blue Hill. I have heard wonderful things about it

I didn't love Craft. Their whole thing is incredibly high-quality ingredients prepared very simply. Don't get me wrong, the food is impressive, but there's zero wow factor. If I'm paying that much for a meal, I want some more culinary fireworks. I definitely appreciate what they're doing, but it's not somewhere I'd go back to. Blue Hill, on the other hand, is fantastic (and a bit more reasonable). |

I also loved Blue Hill. Thought it was a wonderful meal with great service in a warm, relaxed and intimate setting. Have heard that the garden is beautiful too. |

OK, You amateurs. You have relatively good taste, but you haven't been to the best of the west yet. I had dinner tonight at my ultimate FAVORITE restaurant in NYC, and, quite frankly, I am reluctant to share this with you. I am going to do it, but as I said, I am reluctant because I don't want you to know about it. But, I had dinner tonight at Palma's, 28 Cornelia Street, and this is the ultimate best restaurant. Weather permitting, you can dine in the outdoor garden, or in the historic carriage house in the rear. I hate myself for sharing this with you. |

Oh Elaine baby, Palma's is so pre-TimeWarnerCenter... kidding! Palma's very nice I agree. But with regards to the original list, Craft stands out in that it is a unique experience. It's great for dinner parties but less so if you're looking to go as a couple. The layout just does not seem ideal for intimacy but is great for a dinner party. Food is top notch as with most of the restaurants listed, so I would go with atmosphere depending on your dining companion(s). |

I think it's going to be Veritas. It's just my wife and me--an overnight in the city for her birthday. Dude, thanks for the info. I've got a chef friend coming into town next month, so I'm thinking of taking her to Craft. Thanks everyone. If anything else comes to mind, please post. Always looking for great restaurants.

Go to HEARTH. It is by the ex sous chef at Craft and Tom Colicchio has invested in it. One of the best new american meals I have had in ages!!! Also would recommend Fleur de Sel for a romantic night out with wife. Transporting experience - feels like you are in France! |

Try Bar American - on 52nd Street near 7th Ave. It's a Bobby Flay place, and quite good! I ate there last month, and highly recommend it! |
