Just bought the March issue of New Jersey Monthly. Features their Best of Jersey. The Gate is listed under the category "Good Eating: Best Bang for your Buck (Comfort Food Dept.)"

South Mountain Reservation got "Best Hiking Spot: A walk to the top of South Mountain Reservation is Essex County will clear your head--and remind you of just how beautiful New Jersey's urban/suburban vistas can be."

Have to say I think I agree.

Oh darn. We've been having a hard time getting a table at the Gate lately. Guess it will get worse. Maybe they can buy the nail salon next door and make the restaurant bigger. Or, combine services--a Stella and pedicure special.

....or Smithwicks!

I love the Gate. Since moving to Livingston, I haven't been in there quite as much lately, but took in a cheeseburger and beer there last week with my beau (he is a Montclairian, but loves SJG too). Since we first met there, we have an extra soft spot for it.

I love the idea of expanding that place--but it can't be to the new nail salon----there's a hallway in between (I used to walk up it on the way to our apt). Oh well, we'll just have to deal with the premium on space.
