spoke to someone at HTTA in the last hour... he said it didn't look like the event was going to happen. Are we still a go? I'd like to attend, but it would be just me, and I feel a little funny dining alone. I hope to see more familiar names on the RSVP list soon. |

Although HTTA would love to host this happening, this great dining event will be at Jesse's Restaurant, "Heart and Soul" 61 Academy Street, South Orange on Wednesday, March 15th. My wife and I are planning to attend so put me in for two reservations. I'm really looking forward to those fabulous ribs. Art |

Great news! Libby and I are in... (2) but I thought this was at Jesse's place NOT at HTTA??? Who's on the committee? I just called Arts and Jesse's, but got no answer. Maybe it's to late? Listen, either place works well. The only difference is Jesse's place would be BYOB, and Arts place is now a bar, which means BYOB is not allowed by law... |

Better go to soapbox and post in the thread there - that seems to be where they are counting heads and there aren't many spaces left. I'm thinking (hoping) that if it fills up there will be a repeat, since I can't come this time. |

We have reached seating capacity for Wednesday evening. Thank you for your support. If there is interest, we are willing to arrange two or three gatherings per year at local, less patronized restaurants. Please let us know if you are interested in continuing this along with your restaurant suggestions. Scully and JC |

It's obvious to me that I did not understand the concept of the Heart and Soul restaurant. I went there expecting to have a meal. When I got in the door there was one table taken, the others all empty. However, the woman greeting me would not seat me as I did not have a reservation. All those enpty seats, and she was leaving them empty. Having been refused service, I left. And it will be a long time before I go back! Some way to do business! |

Thanks to all who organized and took part in an absolutely wonderful evening in celebration of Jesse and his family's incredible food endeavor. That means Elaine and John Caffrey specifically and the other 28 people, including my family and the cook extraordinaire and his lovely family. My family absolutely loved his food and now understand who some of the wacky people are that I spend my time conversing with here. For those who may still complain about Heart and Soul's availability just know that Jesse is doing everything he can to make a success of this business. If you can't offer him suggestions or capitol then just accept what his arrangement is now. In other words, put up or shut up. His arrangement for now as quoted on a flyer I took home is: "Starting February 27, 2006 Heart & Soul is initiating a new reservation plan. For those of you that will be dining in a 48 hour advance notice is requested. For those of you who will like to be accommodated with take [out] orders, a 48 hour advance notice is also requested. Call and make your reservations now (973) 763-9005. The menu will be posted on our website: www.heartandsoulrestaurant.com. For more information inquire within. You can also plan private catering, private parties, meetings, company lunches, & etc. Chef Jesse. Business Hours Thursday - 5 pm to 9 pm Friday & Saturday - 5 pm to 9 pm Sunday - 4 pm to 8 pm 62 Academy Street, South Orange, NJ" |

Dang that fried okra was good, the mac-n-cheese, the chicken, the ribs, the cornbread, heck it was all good. Tonight was my first time there, and I was wondering what took so long, and the company was great, everyone knew my name, and now they have a face to go with it. I'll have to give the most enthusiastic greeting award to BGS, she whooped with Monster joy and I thought she was going to collapse with glee when she finally met me, and it was very nice meeting you too. Everyone kept asking me who Mem was, and is she here yet, so at one point of the night I shouted out that since everyone kept asking who she was, I pointed to her and said "there she is!", but it was the only outing I gave tonight. Monster Wife and I sat at a table with Art C, and some crazy Scottish woman, err - I mean his lovely wife Libby, and for the life of me I can't remember the name of the other lovely woman at our table, but I can say that I my wife and I enjoyed their company for the evening. John kept me supplied withn beer, and his lovely wife Leslie kept me supplied with sexy looks across the room. Wendy didn't have one FU for me, Elaine was all bubbly, or at least I thought she appeared that way, I didn't see ES&L eat one shoot, though he may have had some leaves, Scully asked me where her prize was, sorry-next time, Mem was surrounded by MEN at her table, I think Jack Caffrey and I got to say hello, and all of the non MOL spouses, partners, significant others, friends got to meet some of the people that their other half complains/talks about. A big thank you to Jesse and family for a great meal, and happy birthday Jesse. If I left anything out, or anyone, please feel free to come to Bunnys or wherever another F2F will take place, and complain to me over a beer, your treat. |

Last night was just great!!! It was so much fun to spend time with some terrific people...and the food...I thought my grandmother was in that kitchen!!! The corn bread was to die for...okra cooked perfectly...chicken melted in your mouth and the ribs ....there are no words... Monster-you rule!!! I was so happy to put a face to the name (although I do remember meeting you at Bunny's once...but this time I feel like I know you better, having read more of your prose) Had a nice dinner with Art and Willie of H2TA's and enjoyed speaking with Pizzaz and lovely Leslie and seeing Art C. without a beard!!!! with his lovely Libby....Mem and her SO have a special place in my heart and it was nice meeting Scully, Wendy, John Caffrey, Suzanne Ng and a really nice person in Eats, Shoots and Leaves...on more than one level....Of course, Mr BGS does not understand how we can all meet each other for the first time and speak to each other like we are good friends...Thanks to Jesse for having us and for everyone picking up on Elaine Harris' original post and making a great evening happen. Art C.-did you ever get around to discussing a community gym? |

Monster, that was Susan at the table with us, and yes, there's no doubt that everyone had a great time. Jesse and his family rocks... Getting together in a F2F is the glue that binds. Supporting local businesses like we all did last night was very cool. It also gave Libby a chance to tell her stories to Mr. Mrs. Monster... ;-) She’s looking forward to this summer to having everyone over for the British invasion party. You better get your Indian outfit ready. BTW, thanks for asking BGS, and mentioning everyone. It was nice to see you again too. And, yes, we talked briefly about a “MOL Community Gym.” I believe Mem's suggestion was that we start a thread to raise more interest. If we can get 120 people to agree to sign up for only $100 a year, that probably would cover the rent, insurance, and utilities for the year... I believe we would all have to chip in an extra $1.00 a month for a cable connection so we can also post while we exercise. Plus, I need to stay in shape for some of my on-line battles... And Dave, if you don't clear up the rules of engagement with some of these “poopy-heads” on line, you'll be next pal.

Thanks to everyone for making last night a success. I wanted to arrange the gathering to help Chef Jesse but also to meet some people who have contributed to making life just a little bit more fun. I would like to organize two more such events this year in order to support Jesse and other small restaurants that add to our community. Please respond to this idea. If there is interest, I will start another thread in the next couple of months in order to make this happen.

Hmmm, in this case, with a poopy head, it is more appropriate to quote the old joke: "If the foo sh*ts, wear it." Thanks to Elaine and John for organizing a great night out. Wonderful to meet all the MOL posters IRL, and especially to get to talk about earthquakes, tsunamis, and building collapses with Wendy's wonderful son and husband (you had to be there)--thanks also for the brew. What struck me was how many people were eating there for the first time--and they were blown away by Jesse's food, of course. Excellent way to market one of the best small restaurants around. I would be up to do it again at H&S, or perhaps we can do it once a month or once a quarter at a different local eatery that could use the publicity? |

Jesse- The ribs were perfect. Would love to come back again and bring more of my family. The hard part for us would be to make reservations two nights in advance when you have 20 somethings in the family...they are more apt to drop in and want to do something with us. Perhaps you could be opened for sure for three days a week? Do you have lunch menu? With that big office building nearby, perhaps you could draw a lunch crowd...especially if you did take out and could deliver to the offices...inundate the parking lot with flyers...take flyers to the Pathmark and A&P parking lots on the weekend...just a thought...We will be back as soon as we can.... Thanks again! BGS |

Thanks all for the great time last night! I could have bought a lot more people who were interested, but Jesse was booked. My recommendation is to organize another one in a week or two so all the people who missed out because of bad timing or already booked this time can go. Cheers Jesse and happy b'day! |
