Has anyone visited the Great Wolf Indoor Waterpark in Scotrum, PA? I think it's about 90 minutes away from M/SO. Good/bad experience? |

One of my clients has been there recently (January) and she said that it is awesome. She suggests going in the middle of the week for lower rates because it is rather expensive. She said that the actual waterpark is just great and well maintained and every safety precaution is taken. She also said that the accomodations are terrific (you cannot use their waterpark facilities unless you stay there) |

Wow, at first glance, I though the name of the town where that waterpark is located was something different.

Isn't it Scotrun? As opposed to Scotrum (and what Kevin thought.) |

You're right! Freudian slip, I guess. It seems quite expenseive - almost $400/night for the cheapest room!! Yikes! But it looks like a lot of fun, too. |

Composerjohn, The rooms are indeed pricey HOWEVER the room charge includes free admission to the water park for each member of the family. the resort offers all kinds of arts and crafts/story time/ wolf hunts/etc. for the kids. I would suggest 2 nights/3 days mid-week. If you decide to go, PL me and I'll give you some additional tips. |

$400 a night. That's a ripoff. A family of four can go to Disney World for a week, stay on the property and get admission to all the parks for $1600-$1800.

I was under the impression that the $400 was "all inclusive" meaning food and drink and entertainment, etc. Whereas you have to pay to eat on the resort at Disney. No? |

The $400 includes admission to the waterpark and some meals (I think). I requested a brochure. |

The Disney plan does not include meals. However, look at what you get: Access to 4 theme parks Access to 3 Water Parks Its Disney, not some water park in the middle of no where. Universal Studios is close by with the awesome Men in Black ride! I think we went on that at least 10 times. I'll admit I like the idea of the indoor water park close by. At the same time, $400 a night is just out of control. I'll go on a day trip there. How much more time does one need at one indoor water park? |

Darren - you can't do a day trip there - you have to be staying at the hotel. The NY Times had an article about this place a few months ago: http://travel2.nytimes.com/2006/01/27/travel/escapes/27splash.html?n=Top%2FFeatu res%2FTravel%2FDestinations%2FUnited%20States%2FMinnesota&adxnnl=1&adxnnlx=11414 95310-WoHk8fGdyWqRsVNOpVXwww |

I would think that 10 and 13 would be PRIME age for enjoyment of this! My 10 and 14 year olds would love it, but their parents are too stingy to even consider it, I'm afraid. |

You have to stay at the hotel if you want to go to the water park? What a scam.

I would not really consider it a scam if they tell you up front. Nobody is forcing anyone to go. To me, Disney is a scam operation. They charge exorbitant prices for lousy food and there are more gift shops than rides. |

There is also a birthday party special listed... I think once you have the room, you can add guests for $15 each ( who are not staying at the lodge), which includes park admission, tokens, and a bunch of other stuff. |

I know a couple of families who went and did the en suite thing and said it was actually a good value, all in, especially for those fed up with winter. They did the one night thing during the week with 2 or 3 kids and had a blast. Said, too, that the behavior there was well-monitored without being too much. |

Grrrr, I wanted to go. I saw the commercials. I didn't know you had to stay there to go to the park. That to me is a scam. They don't tell you on the commercials you must be a resort guest to go to the park. If Disney or Six Flags did this I'm sure a lot more people would complain as well. I guess we'll just wait for warmer weather and go up to Mountain Creek or down to Six Flags Hurricane Harbor. |

You don't have to stay there, you just have to pay for the price of the room. Disney prefers to sucker you in to the park and then rip you off with their exorbitant prices for lousy food and overpriced junk. When it was first built, they encouraged other hotels to build. If you notice, Disney has package deals with the hotels and airlines. However, they have built a lot of hotels themselves and I never heard of anyone saying let's go to disney for the day (unless they live in the Orlando area).

Disney's business model makes much more sense though, and you really can't compare a relatively small waterpark to a vacation destination. Yes, when Disney world was first built they separated a section of the property for other hotel companies to build. And they have also invited other major chains in with the Dolphin and Swan hotels near Epcot. Still, what Disney offers now is a total experience. They've realized the lost revenue by having all the hotels in the surrounding area. Now they have the capability of no matter what price range keeping more people on property thus keeping the $$. Their prices for food is no greater than other tourist traps, and I would disagree with your assessment of the quality of their food. I had quite a few good meals there. One just needs to know where to eat. There are plenty of websites that discuss Disney World just like we discuss everything on this board.
