Girl Scouts selling at train station. So I grab a box of thin mints. MY FAVORITE. Well they actually taste pretty good this year, but the consistency was different. I can't scrape off the chocolate with my teeth without the cookie crumbling. Also it seems like the chocolate layer is thinner. This is new. Last year's cookies were different too. My opinion is that Thin Mints are a national institution. Last year we had a similar conversation and it was explained how different troops gets cookies from different cookie manufacturers, so I understand HOW it happens, but I don't think it's a good thing. We need... No I DEMAND better GS cookie quality control. Thin Mints can't continue to evolve like this. Having ranted about the steady cookie quality decline I must say the Samoas were actually better than last year...but I will admit I am not as much of samoa conneseur as I am with thin mints. |

Maybe a different bakery? I think there are only 2 bakeries nation-wide that are authorized to produce Girl Scout cookies: From the Girl Scout website: Two commercial bakers are licensed by the national Girl Scout organization, Girl Scouts of the USA, to produce Girl Scout Cookies: ABC/Interbake Foods and Little Brownie Bakers. here is a list of FAQ about Girl Scout Cookies: http://www.girlscouts.org/program/gs_cookies/faqs.asp |

Thin Mints: my memories. 1977 July suburban Dallas sunbathing at noon in the back yard with my friend using baby oil as a tanning lotion. Must be about 99 degrees. Rule was two songs on radio then flip. During commercial and "flip" to other side, quickly run into house and grab handful of thin mints out of the freezer. Return to towel on grass eat thin mints and smile. Wait for two more songs. Repeat. |

Also have been disappointed in the past by below-standard Girl Scout cookies. Samoas are my favorite -- those are manufactured by Interbake. Little Brownie Bakers make a similar cookie, but they call it something else. They taste stale and have a strange consistency. Let the buyer beware --- check the manufacturer before you buy --- otherwise you may be surprised by what's inside! |

The bakery for the council that serves Maplewood and South Orange is the same as in past years - Little Brownie (including Samoas.) The other major baker is ABC which calls their similar cookie Caramel Delites. I've always thought that those were not as good as Samoas. I've never heard of Interbake. They are evolving the recipes, in part to respond to health concerns ... mainly re trans fats. I understand that by next year there will be no trans fats in any of the flavors. I don't have any other explanation for what you may have observed. I actually haven't tried any Samoas this year, yet. Once I start, I probably won't be able to stop. I've had a few Thin Mints and they tasted fine to me ... but I just eat them - I don't scrape (?) |

Alleygator: I have checked into the matter. Your Thin Mints are part of a manufacturing run which was deliberately tampered with by the Keebler Elves, as part of a guerilla war they are waging against the Brownies.
I have no information regarding the Samoas. Go in peace. --The Oracle of MOL |

Interbake is the old Burry? biscuit factory (I think that it is Burry-I know that it took over a well known brand company) in Elizabeth....they have been doing Girl Scout cookies at this location for at least 10 years. |

They have the samoas. Their thin mints are better, and they have the smooth edges.

The girl scout troop gets about 20% of the sale price. I got tired of buying and selling the cookies. I just wrote a check.
