Looking for a local place for a nice anniversary dinner, where do you think I can get last minute reservations? Lorena's? Terra? Cafe Monet? Other recommendations would be great.

If Lorena's has a spot, take it.

Basilico in Millburn. I would recommend getting a reservation.

Centanni's...try and keep the business in town!!! or Verjus...have been there recently and the food is just wonderful.

FWIW-Basilico's has good food but I find it to be awfully noisy

Thanks for the input! Lorena's is not open today, so I won't know if they have a spot or not until then. We were just at Centanni's for a b-day celebration two weeks ago, so I would like something different. I love Basilico's but I have to agree with BGS that it is a little too loud to have an intimate dinner. I have never been to Terra and they have a spot for tomorrow at 7:00, is it "anniversary worthy"? BTW, is our 10th year anniversary celebration...

I would think Terra would be anniversary worthy, but everyone's idea of what is anniversary worthy is different.

I have three little kids and my husband works a lot, so we don't get out much and I'm pretty easy to please when we do get out. As long as the atmosphere is pleasant and the food is good, and nobody's fidgeting in the seat next to me and dropping food and flatware on the floor, and I can eat in peace and enjoy my meal, I'm good to go!

When I'm looking for something a bit more "special" with incredibly charming atmosphere, reliably excellent service, a nice wine list and a bar for cocktails and consistantly excellent food, my first choice is Amanda's in Hoboken. But then, I don't know how local you mean local to be.

Wonderful.

I vote for Lorena's or Verjus (very good and realtively inexpensive french food, springfield ave.)

Did you see my reply to your original post?

Hubby & I had our anniversary dinner at Terra this year and had a wonderful time, great food, relaxing atmosphere, we could walk home at the end of the night. And it's BYO so it doesn't break the bank. Definitely anniversary worthy, IMHO, unless you're looking for something more self conciously "fancy".

Highly recommend Verjus. French nouvelle, nicely executed. Tidy, interesting and reasonably-priced wine list.

Inspired by Amandacat and WendyP I stopped by Terra last night to check out the menu and confirm my reservation. I was really looking forward to tonight, a night away without the kid, nice dinner, even bought a nice bottle of wine. Fast forward to this morning...we both got the stomach flu...its really bad...how romantic.

I guess we can always celebrate next week

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions and the feedback

Hope you're feeling better soon. Guess it's just have to be a belated anniversary dinner!

And an FYI for future reference: Amanda's is also "reasonably" priced.

Esq2, that's so funny! Wait, that sounds weird -- there's nothing funny about the stomach flu! What I meant to say was that our anniversary dinner at Terra had to be postponed too, not because we were sick but because our baby was. We ended up having a combination anniversary/birthday dinner there a month later, and as I said before, it was delish. Hope you both feel better soon, & enjoy your anniversary dinner whenever it finally rolls around!!!
