Does anyone remember Swanson's Resturant that was where The Top is today? I used to go there for mint chocolate chip sundae with my aunt after shopping at the mall. I remember that it was always empty and you could sit by the window and look at the cityscape. It was quite a treat. |

There was a Swanson' ice cream parlor in the city, on the east side (2nd avenue?) in the sixties. Maybe another branch in Greenwich Village too. Is that waht you were thinking of? |

It was Grunings up the hill, and then the only Grunings location was, I believe, where Arugula is today. |

I thought the ice cream place was called Swensons (with an e, not an a). There was a grunings for a short time in parsippany. Niecy's is located in what used to be the factory for Grunings (where they made the ice cream, hot fudge, chocolate bars, etc).

There was Grunings at the top and Grunings on the bottom (Arugala) and I think there was one in Millburn and I know that there was one in Montclair.

You guys are sharp! After opening the thread, I realized that I might/probably had the name wrong. I remember both a place called Swenson's and Grunings? Either way, I have warm memories of the place. |

There was a Grunings in Caldwell too. The store in South Orange Center was the main store. The ice cream and chocolates (hand dipped) were made in the back. The Grunings at 'the Top' was managed by Mr. Grunings daughter and son-in-law. They always had dry ice on hand for people who came from afar to get the ice cream. Their chocolate was absolutely awesome! |
