I know this question has been asked before but I can't seem to find prior dicussions using the search function. My daughter has this Friday off from school and I was just looking for a family friendly destination within 3-4 hour drive. We've been to DC and Boston many times so any new suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm a huge fan of Cape May. What exactly are you looking to do once you reach your destination? How old is your daughter? Philadelphia's a great city and not too far. Mystic Connecticut? |

Wendy, Thank you for the suggestion. Like you, almost every activitiy we engage in is geared toward the kids. My daughter is 5 1/2 and son is 3. Cape May sounds interesting. What can we do there? We've already been to Mystic twice. I love Philly, too but that was before marriage and children. What can we do there?

O.K. Well, 5 1/2 and 3 changes things a bit. In Philly I was thinking of the Liberty Bell and all that historic stuff. But your kids are probably too young. Cape May is probably more fun "in season" with the little ones than it might be right now, when a lot of stuff is closed. So much for my suggestions! A friend is going to that new place in the Poconos--Great Wolf Lodge--for her second visit in just a few months. Her kids are 6, 4 and 1. They seem to really enjoy it. She was telling me that the room they got this time has a kitchenette and a seperate sleeping area--she said it's like a tent in the room--for the kids. I'm taking my kids to PA Dutch country for a few days during the April break to a B&B geared towards families that's a working farm. Again, it may be a bit early in the season to go there now. http://www.800padutch.com/ What about Hershey, PA? Although, again, I'm not sure the park is open. I guess you could call. Have you been to the Crayola crayon factory in Easton PA? That's really just a day trip as it's only about an hour from here. You could drive down to any shore town and grab up a motel room for a night or two and just wing it. Point Pleasant Beach has an amusement park-- though, again, it may not be open. I've heard Baltimore, MD is nice but I don't know what there is to do there. |

Baltimore, MD?!?!! Umm... the harbor area is quite nice... you have a good aquarium, shops and restaurants. Plus there's the water which is always nice when the weather warms up. BUT... Baltimore is actually very depressing and somewhat dumpy a couple of blocks beyond the harbor area. Downright scary in many ways. For a long weekend I would maybe spend the day in Baltimore and continue on to DC for the most of the weekend. |

Baltimore is fun...at the harbor is a GREAT children's museaum with an amazing climbing structure & acquarium down the street is great too...that's about all we did. But what about the city? We have taken similarly aged kids to the city for the weekend...we stayed at the Doubletree in time square as they had a special & catered to kids...cookies & backpack on arrival, "suite" room with great view of Time Square signs & a playroom with toys etc...we went to the Children's Museum (currently showing Andy Warhol, I believe), Natural History Museum, park, dim sum in China Town, carriage ride, ferris wheel in Toys R Us etc...had a fun time...I'm sure there is lots more to consider doing in Time Out NY Kids Have fun whatever you all do!

Wendy, Great Wolf Lodge looks great. Unfortunately, they're booked this weekend. Do they still run the water park even in this weather?

It's all indoors, so the water park runs year-round, which is the attraction! |

Check Out Philadelphia - a great city, not too far away. Please Touch Museum is fabulous with young kids, and Duck Tour of the City is a blast! http://www.gophila.com/C/Your_Philadelphia/14/Family_friendy_Philadelphia/264/Fa mily_friendly_Especially_for_kids/306.html If kids are into Sesame Street at all, check out Sesame Place 100 Sesame Road Langhorne, PA 19047 (215) 752-7070 http://www.sesameplace.com
