How long can you keep homemade chicken soup in the freezer with the intention of defrosting it to eat? It has the usual ingredients: chicken, vegetables, water, etc. |

After 6 months to a year, it will lose taste (depending on how it is wrapped). It won't hurt you if it was cooled & frozen properly to begin with. It just won't taste good. My mother and I constantly battle over this; I cleaned out her freezer while she was bed-ridden last summer (If you haven't cooked this leg of lamb dated 2001 by now, I doubt you are ever going to do it. I don't care if you got it on sale; I'll give you the money for it). Trust me; I'm an expert on this stuff. |

The only thing about freezing chicken soup is that if you have any noodles, other pasta, or potatoes in it they get kind of icky. OK to eat, just not great. The noodles get slimy and potatoes get grainy. So I use rice or barley or something like that in soup that I'm planning to freeze. |
