I'm sure this has been discussed before but I did a search and couldn't find much. I am trying to find a great sushi place in the area for dinner on Friday night, am open to suggestions in Montclair, Summit. Thanks

Three words: New York City. There is no great sushi in our area. |

I have heard that Monster sushi in Summit is good. I haven't been there though. |

Monster is great if you like ludicrously oversized fish and cloyingly sweet sushi rice. Their fish is actually pretty good, and it's certainly one of the better options in this area, but it's a long way from great. |

We like Nori in Caldwell. It's not up to the best New York standards but it's pretty good for around here. Unfortunately The Sopranos appears to have found it. |

There is a wonderful sushi takeout place in Springfield on Morris Ave called Hunari. The prices are ridiculously low and the sushi is fabulous. Its only been there about 6 months. |

If you can't go to NYC, go to Nikko on route 10. |

Thanks for the suggestions. A friend suggested that we try Aozora in Montclair. |

Oh Aozora is excellent. I haven't tried the Sushi because all the pan-Asian offerings are so good. Only downsides are the noise and the sardine-like tables but entirely worth it. |

Theres Ajian on rt 22 in watchung...amazing quality fish...dont go for anything but raw fish as the entrees are average. The quality of fish is comparable to high end NYC places. I wouldnt even order rolls there because they are just average in creativity...its all about the sushi or sashimi. Monster in summit is the worst...taka on summit ave is better but go to watchung for amazing fish. |
