Costco (inexpensive and good) or Kait & Abbey's (expensive and good).

I haven't tried Food of Our Own Design, but the desserts look yummy! cakes appear to be their specialty

Thanks all...

I should have searched the archives... I found a really nice thread on it.. I keep forgetting about all the nice places in town... I would rather place an order in SOMA than in NYC...

Cheers

We used FOOOD (Food of Our Own Design) for my mother-in-law's 60th birthday party, and were happy with quality (taste and appearance) and price. FOOOD on Springfield Ave was also very accomodating to work with. We got something decadently chocolate - they had a good selection of other flavor combos, though. I think that for 65 people we got the full sheet size. Everyone enjoyed and we had plenty leftovers, too. Only hiccup was that since FOOOD was closed on Sunday - the day of our party - I had to pick up the cake on Saturday and store it; which really wasn't a problem - the cakes come very cold, on the edge of frozen, and with that size cake, which I couldn't fit in my fridge, I just kept it in my cool basement overnight, and the serving temperature on party-day was fine. I would certainly use them again.

Foood was amazing. It was the first time that the entire cake was eaten at a party. Usually we end up throwing out at least some. They only are open Mon-friday for pick ups.

Update:

I ordered the cake from Cait & Abbey for 40 people, it was a 14" round Stawberry shortcake... It looked huge and most people thought it could feed twice as many, but 90% of it was gone by the end of the lunch...

It was really nice and the bakery actually called me @ 9AM to ask about the colors and decorations on it... so was absolutely fresh...

I spoke with FOOD, but they are not open on weekends, so they will never be on my buy list...

Maybe next time I'll give Cold Stone a try... but 2 thumbs up for Cait & Abbey...

I like Cait and Abby's cakes, too. They've never disappointed; have had them for a number of occasions.

However, for really good and really expensive, I like Whole Foods cakes. Best grocery store cakes I've ever tasted, and nice to look at.

The Cold Stone cake looks amazing, too, but personally, I keep my ice cream and cake separate. Quirky, yes. That said -- I do like Cold Stone's ice cream!
