Anybody know where I can get some good manicotti tonight? I'm craving them in a big way! I don't want a fancy sit-down meal, just someplace where I can pick up take-out or have a very casual meal. Does Village Trat have them? |

I guess it's easier to look for lost contact lenses where the light is better than where you lost them. I'd be surprised if they didn't have manicotti, but try asking them at 973-761-7111. Whatever they say will be true.

is The Reservoir open tonight? thats another good choice if theyre open. Id say go to DiPietro's and get some pre-prepared and heat it up at home, but I dont think theyre open on Mondays. If they are, and if their manicotti is anything like their ravioli, you cant go wrong.

Tom, are you having a bad day or something?? I appreciate the phone number but could have done without the snide sarcasm. My questions was more of a thinking out loud kind of "Gee, I wonder if Village Trat has them...". I know how to use a phone book, thanks, but I'd rather hear from people that might have actually EATEN manicotti nearby and could RECOMMEND where I should have them. |

Oh, sorry. If I could have added inflection, you would have known it was the gentlest of jokes, not conveying any impatience with you. In other words, I was ribbing you. I need to get better at doing that online. And thanks, Hank, for the right number!

Quick , before they close . Go to DePietros , get a box of their fresh manicotti , comes 8 to a box , buy some sauce pre heat oven to 375 and some bread a little Ruffino cianti . Your set , best I've ever had. They must be fresh not frozen. Takes about 15 min. |

Ok, all is right in the world again, Tom, and I can enjoy my manicotti in peace tonight! Thanks for the info everyone! I need to make some phone calls now. Jet, that sounds perfect but I'm still at work, nowhere near DiPietro's right now. But I'll absolutely keep that in mind and try them some time. |

I would have gone with DiPietro's, too. When my cousins from CA come out here (originally from Maplewood) they insist on having their ravioli AT LEAST one night. |

I think you can get DiPietro's through the concierge at the train station (you used to be able to anyway...). I remember ordering from them. They even called to tell me that they only have the frozen version of whatever I ordered and then proceeded to tell me what they had fresh, so that I could change my order. Their food is great. (This is making me hungry). Hope you got some great manicotti. |

Well, I will definitely have to try the ones from DiPietro's sometime SOON because the ones from Village Trat just didn't cut it for me. The weren't bad, but I found that the ricotta just wasn't flavored much, and I didn't like the sauce on it. Is it just me, or did they put the same sauce on the pasta as they do on the pizza? Hubby had Penne Vodka, and that was quite tasty, though. Thanks for everyone's suggestions, and hopefully I'll have better luck next time! |

Love Trat's food but don't like their marinara at all—on pizza it's fine but not on pasta. Their garlic and oil though is to die for. (Much better than Reservoir's which was barely edible, though I love their pizza.) |

Manicotti is 3rd on the list of ricotta infused pasta. It is well behind both ravioli and lasagna. |

Agreed, TM, I usually have lasagna and ravioli, but for some reason manicotti just grabbed a hold of me this time!! I think it's because I'm trying to stay away from pasta and bread, and manicotti have more of a ricotta to pasta ratio. But you know what - lasagna is on the menu at our work cafeteria tomorrow, and I may just have to have some!! |

I was in DiPietro's this morning...besides the broad selection of different ravioli (fresh and frozen, and having had both, even the frozen is topnotch), they did have fresh manicotti in the fridge (made me think of you, Diva). I was buying cheese and eggplant and ricotta salata this time though. |

Hank, What do you do with the ricotta salata? My M-in-L used to use a ricotta that she called basket cheese for pizza rustica...is that what salata is called??? Thanks, BGS |

BGS, that is dry ricotta for the pizza rustica (or you can use farmers cheese or basket cheese). Ricotta salata is dried and pressed so its a semi-hard cheese made from ricotta...you can use it sliced or grated (sandwiches, on pasta dishes, etc.). I in fact used it with the eggplant slices from DiPietros for a sandwich with roasted peppers, arugala and balsamic vinegar.

shh, we'll have a lunchdate some day...it cant be on a Monday since DiPietro's is closed Mondays. By the way, the Portuguese roll I also got at DiPietro's is much better than the ones you'll find most places...makes a good sandwich. |
