Anybody travel to Riviera Maya recently? Are there any particular beach areas/resorts that stand out (or should be avoided)? My wife and I will be traveling with our 3 and 2 year old and are thinking of going in Sept.

Thanks

I was at the Riu Yucatan on the Riviera Maya (near Playa del Carmen) last month. While the resort did have some problems (check the reviews on Tripadvisor.com), it's a good place for kids (lots of child-friendly food options, and a kids' club area; also a shallow pool for kiddies). That whole stretch of beach south of Playa is in good shape; we were told that the hurricane actually left them with more beach, tho most of the palm trees were looking pretty bare. The town of Playa del Carmen has recovered from the hurricane well, too. Not sure what the diving is like off Riviera Maya, but it was very windy for several days when we were there, and the snorkel trips weren't going.
PL me if you have any questions or would like to see recent photos of the resort and the beach.

That's where were going for our honeymoon, Secrets Capri. Every thing we read said that the Iberostar resorts were great for kids. We didn’t want kids at our resort so now I can’t go in the lazy river :-(

go to www.locogringos.com and read the forum and ask questions. It was a valuable resource before I went last year. I stayed in a villa near Tulum. It was a wonderful, wonderful vacation. PL me if you have questions

Have been to Sunscape in Tulum for a couple of years. All inclusive resort with a great kids camp (counselors get the shyest of children involved!) Food is ok ...they have a variety of restaurants to choose from but after a week the choice is narrowed if you do not eat seafood. But as you would expect salsa, guac and chips are delicious - especially by the pool with a top shelf delivered drink...It is a fiesta!
