I went into the place for the first time yesterday and it was great. They have a lot of healthy but delicious stuff. I got the chicken teriyaki wrap and thoroughly enjoyed it. They also make all kinds of smoothies. Plus, it's run by a very nice husband and wife team.

I am right there with you with that one! They are awesome! The owner, I forget his name at the moment, made my mom some fresh juices (he "prescribed") when she was living with me (on Hospice) and had cancer. He was so caring and sincere (as was his wife) and still are. I will always appreciate them for that. She also makes GREAT zucchini muffins!

I went in to get a veggi drink. The owner used his bare hands to push the veggis into the juicer. He stopped to complete a sale and took money made change never washed his hands and finished pushing my veggis into the juicer. I was so disgusted by this I took my drink walked out and dumped it. I did call the board of health.
And his hands were dirty to start with. I never say negative things about a business in our town but this was just disgusting. I did notice that the woman making the wraps was washing her hands and used utensils.

Why not just ask him to wash his hands and make you another instead of paying and dumping your drink?

Because I realized that if I have to tell a owner of a food business to not use his dirty hands to handle the veggis he is pushing into the mixer then there is a much bigger problem here. He should know better.
I am just putting it out there so you can watchout for this when you go there.

but why did you pay for it???? if you were as disgusted as you claim to be you should have a)spoken up and voiced your disgust/concern b)refused to pay-indicating why c)walked out empty handed AFTER you did a and b

i am always surprised at how much people will do (paying for something they absolutely have NO intention of EVER eating/using/etc.) just to avoid any type of confrontation-even when they are clearly justified in their concerns. i find it especially ironic when these same people will pick fights and are extremely vocal on their opinions on this message board

and also...IMHO i would give them the benefit of the doubt that it was a simple oversight (distracted, long day...whatever the reason) and that if you had simply brought it to his attention he would have been mortified and apoligized and probably made you a new one-on the house. if this was a recurring issue with the owner of this fine establishment, we all know it would have shown up here on MOL LONG ago!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just did not want to get into a confrontation over 6 dollars.
Just not worth it.

but it's worth bad mouthing to all of MOL. i just didn't think it was an appropriate thing to bring up since it wasn't such a big deal for you to even refuse to pay...i know your experience won't deter me from putting my $$ into a local business...i hope others won't let it deter them either.

Lucy I really do not want to get into this but it was not the first time. He never wore rubber gloves while making these veggi drinks and I never saw him wash his hands before making it. Go there order a drink that requires him to push veggis into the juicer and see if he wears gloves. I have not been there in a very long time. Hopefully he has started to wear gloves.

to each his own i guess. i just don't understand if you don't like the man's place/procedures so much why you go in there multiple times and repeatedly say nothing? if i ordered a drink and saw no gloves-i would speak up. but we are all different in that respect.

enough of this thread drift-let the people who have good things to say about this establishment chime in-since that was the purpose of the thread

Michael, you obviously have way too much time on your hands. If you spent half the effort getting the problem rectified, you'd have saved yourself money and obvious agro. I have been a customer at It's a Wrap for almost 2 years, and eat there regularly. On one occassion when I had an issue, Russ went the extra mile to remedy the situation, and we often laugh about it. I feel welcome and appreciated and would highly recommend this business to everyone. The proof is they have outlasted many restaurants that have come and gone.

I went in there today to check out your complaint and guess what! He was wearing gloves at the juice machine. Thinking back, I don't recall not seeing anyone there making juices or smoothies (or wheatgrass for that matter) not wearing gloves. Give us all a break, and get over yourself. Give them the benefit of the doubt and try it out again. It's your loss, not theirs!

Radivik please do not preach to me about my experience. I believe MOL to be a vehicle to communicate with other people on the site. I do not need to get over myself as I have done nothing wrong here. I had finally called the board of health and it obviously has worked. You are nasty and a jackass.

My name is Radovik, not Radivik. There is no preaching (as you put it) intended, just opinions. Your opinion is valid, just as is mine. Nasty and a jackass? How old are you? 4.......maybe 5? Grow up sonny....you're playing in an adult world. Name calling indeed! You should be bannished from the planet!

you obviously have way too much time on your hands. Give us all a break, and get over yourself. These statements do not sound like someone who respects anothers opinion. And sorry about the wrong spelling of your name.

Lydia,

I wish we had a place like that in Maplewood!

My wife and I hope Café Meow on SA will be just such a place for you. Look for us to open in May.

And it's near other great SA establishments like Wooden You Know, Spring Fields, Beaded Path, Stories in Motion and NetNomads, and Shakti Ma.

(Oh, and we love to wash our hands. )

Cafe Meow!

I love the name already!

I was driving down Springfield the other day and saw what I thought was an organic-y grocery starting - is that Meow?

Tell me/us more!

**warning thread drift**

Lydia - the organic market is called Spring Fields. It has a small but growing inventory and is a good alternative to Whole Foods.

I love the name Meow. Can't wait until it opens.

Hismom - right after I posted I saw the thread about Spring Fields but I didn't want to sound dorky and come back with a correction.

Dorky correction is happening.

The name Meow is SO cool! - Playful, kitty-centric, but doesn't make you think it's a pet store.

I will go to Spring Fields too - I love "Wooden You Know" and the bead store and all the cool stores that have blossomed on that little stretch.

2 years ago I had my doubts, but I was (happily) proved wrong.

Springfield Avenue is really transforming by bits and pieces.
