Need a nice, upscale (need not be fancy though) restaurant with great food for an early-ish (say, 4pm) Easter dinner with my mother, my husband, and our one year old. French or New American cuisine preferred. The local-er the better. Any suggestions?

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but we have heard GREAT things about the Hamilton Park Hotel in Florham Park. I think they have a website. Buffet style with a wide variety of choices in food. Very nice but not stuffy/over the top .

Also you can try the SH Hilton but it is VERY expensive and I think it is only a brunch.

My neighbors have done the Grand Summit many times for Easter...have always raved about it.
What about Verjus? They have really good food and they have high chairs.
A quiet understated elegance about the place....
Reasonable prices too IMO.
Hope you find something that you love!

Thanks for all the good suggestions, folks. We're looking for a sit down dinner, not buffet, not brunch, so something like Verjus or Cent'Anni could work. Chris, are you serving your regular menu that day or are you offering a special Easter menu?

OK. my mom officially wants French, or French-like anyway. Verjus is out, they have a limited menus on Easter and are only serving until 4. Any suggestions for French(ish) food in neighboring towns such as Millburn, Summit, Montclair, etc?

Well, we ended up going to C'ent Anni (not French, I know, but local and open when we wanted to eat), and it was perfect. The room was nice, the food delicious (LOVED the porcini crusted rack of lamb), and they took very good care of us, including our one year old. Thanks, Chris, we'll definitely be back!

Thanks for the kind words Amandacat - glad you enjoyed it (and I think the rack of lamb was one of the main reasons I bought the restaurant;-))
