Yes, VIG, my dtr is a flower! we are signed back up for cheerleading this year, BTW.

In regards to the restaurant and the food, they were so gracious (they didn't charge at all for our children, even though they brought out special foods for them), I hope that this will still be good P.R. for them and that they will get business from the effort in the future. I will certainly go back again.

Ahh man, I didn't want to say it, I know I was bing cheap, but I couldn't see spending $8 per kid when they'd barely eat anything...shucks. (Granted your son is much younger.)

Now I'm really annoyed we didn't make it!

Warning: The following message is being cross posted to spread the word quickly:

Jamie has agreed to have a group from MOL march in the parade but he warns it will strictly be BYOB (Bring Your Own Banner). If you would like to march with other MOL posters, please either indicate by posting a message in the Memorial Day Parade thread in Virtual Cafe or send me a PL.

Anyone wanting to march with the MOL contingent should be at the Columbia High School Student Parking Lot at 8:15 AM on Memorial Day. Since some of our newer posters may not recognize the group, an assembly space for MOL will be provided assuming someone expresses interest.

Monster:

This parade is set up for community-based groups: schoool groups, community service groups, neighborhood associations, and the like. Following is a list of those which have expressed interest. I don't know how many will actually be marching. You can march with any one of these groups if you are a member; but check first with the group's leader to verify that they are participating in the parade.

Parade Committee
Veterans with Honor Guard
Maplewood Glee Club
Vintage Jeep transporting WWII Veteran
Police Honor Guard
Township Committee
Municipal Employees: Police, Fire
Board of Education
Columbia High School Marching Band
Girl Scouts
Boy Scouts
South Mountain Y
Bette White Dancers
Jr. Docents - DurandHedden
JAC
Maplewood Boys’ Lacrosse Club
Girl's Recreational Softball
Seth Boyden Demonstration School
Any other youth groups
St George's Church
Morrow Church
1st Unitarian Universalist Church of Essex County
Knights of Columbus
Civic Association
Citizen’s Budget Advisory Committee
Fouth Of July Committee
South Mountain Peace Action
CCR
SA Partnership
MOL**
SOPAC
SOMBI
Other adult groups on foot
Hilton Neighborhood Association
Community Band
CCN
Rotary
South Orange/Maplewood Elks
Lions
Other adult goups in vehicles
Kiwanis
First Aid Squad and Bikers
Town Vehicles: Fire Engines, DPW

Please post here that you will march with MOL. I am sure your large fan club will literally line up to join you!

If you would rather not be associated publically with MOL and you would like to drive a vehicle in the parade transporting one or more veterans who are unable to walk the parade route, send me a PL and I will see what I can do to get you (a) passenger(s). In that case, let me know how many you can accommodate.

Monster, perhaps you can go under the anarchy banner and begin your march at the end of the parade route, work your way backwards, stop for a bite to eat 3/4 of the way through the route, and then never finish your march.

How do you become a member of the "Other adult groups on foot" organization?

Won't be marching Joan, but have a great time at the parade! Sounds like it will be a great event.

LilLB:

"Other Youth Groups" and "Other Adult Groups on Foot" (as opposed to other adult groups in vehicles) are place savers for groups which don't sign-up prior to the parade but just show up on parade day. We tend to get 3 - 4 such groups every year and if the parade starter doesn't have a place to put them, things get a bit confusing.

I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day. If you are in town on Monday please come watch the parade. (See Virtual Cafe Memorial Day Parade thread for time and parade route.) The ceremony at Town Hall which follows the parade honors those veterans who have died in the past year and includes performances by the Maplewood Glee Club and the Columbia High School Marching Band.

Quite a few people have asked me if you have to be from Maplewood to march in the Memorial Day Parade. The answer is no. Every year we get participants in the parade from a number of our surrounding communities.

Anyone participating in MOL who wants to march with the MOL contingent or any of the other groups to which they belong (see proposed list in Virtual Cafe) is more than welcome.

Of course, you do not have to be a Maplewood resident to come and watch the parade.

I'd like to ask that all SOPAC Ambassadors either march with SOPAC or MOL, or with any other of the above named groups you may choose, but please, march.

CCR has not reconfirmed as yet. Neither has SOPAC. MOL being MOL is still debating the issue and may or may not reach some concensus by 4th of July. All three groups are welcome and a space in the parade has been reserved for each. Looking forward to seeing all three groups at the parade site Monday morning. Confirmation of attendance would be nice.

It was great seeing all the MOLers (and everyone else) who turned out for or marched in the parade and then stayed for the memorial ceremony. Hope to see you there again next year.

Chris, the other locations for MOL F2Fs have been more casual, as far as dress is concerned. I have been under the impression that cent'Anni is more "dressy". How casual is appropriate? Thanks!

(and will the menu/cost be posted on the fTF link? )

No, I will be in Atlanic City all weekend gathering data on the casino smoking issue. It is interesting. We have a device which measures air quality over time periods and prints out analysis. We did this in January and the results were in all of the New Jersey daily newspapers.

I am a fan of What Exit and I am also concerned about the state of the Burgdorf center's roof.
