Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to let everyone know, especially fellow ex-New Yorkers that I am opening a high-end specialty food store in Chatham called Tutti a Tavola. I am currently the specialty food and charcuterie buyer at Dean and Deluca. My new store, opening in mid-May will carry caviar, cheeses, foie gras, charcuterie, breads, olives, olive oils, vinegars and lots of high end specialties like bottarga, duck confit, pomegrante molasses, fresh truffles etc.
I decided to open the store because of my frustration of trying to find great products in New Jersey. So many people say their store is a mini Dean and Deluca, I have yet to find one that even comes close. I will be the first and have the right to say so as my company will carry a lot of the products I currently source and buy for Dean and Deluca. Look for my store on River Road in Chatham across from the new Bottle King and just down the street from the Short Hills Mall.
I hope to see you all soon and if there is anything you believe I should carry, please let me know! Thanks.

Good luck to you. Please let us know when you open. It's time for a specialty store in our area. I could've used the pomegranate molasses this past week.

I need foie gras...today. Seriously! I know I can get the D'Artagnan stuff at whole foods but there should be others..

Will you be in the old Lactation Resource Center in front of Suburban Wholesale FLorists? I know that location well...it is a breeze to get there.

kmk - you'll have to hop to NY to Fauchon to get it today. Next time plan a little ahead: http://www.fauchon.com/c-Specialties.html

Hi Kibbegirl,
It's funny you say that because my goal is to own 3 stores and one of the towns I am considering is South Orange/Maplewood; however, I am really leaning towards Maplewood. The owner of Cafe Arugala, Carlo, a good friend of mine always tells me that your area needs something bad...we'll see!

We would welcome you with open arms in South Orange. Please consider us over Maplewood.....

Joe: Buona fortuna! The name of your place sounds like something Lidia says every show when she signs off: "Tutti a tavola a mangiare!!"

I just got back from 36 hours of fine dining in NYC. (It is ramp season at the Union Square market BTW.)

It reminded me of a few items I would love to be able to buy in NJ. As I mentioned before: assorted pates and foie gras would be a no brainer.
I would also like a reliable source of Amora French mustard and most of all merguez.
Finally - finding salt cod "out of season" has always been a challenge - it would be nice to know a reliable source for an impromptu "brandade de morue".

Thank you for allowing us to "dream" up your store!

That's great news...I cast my vote for South Orange, too! Will you eventually carry some of the wonderful spices & interesting cookery items offered at D&D?

I will carry some Dean and Deluca branded products, their spice racks in particular. However, I really don't know what the NJ market would like. I plan on carrying tons of truffle products, truffle salt in particular which is very big in NYC right now; moreover, so is fennel pollen which I will also have. So to be quite honest I will really rely on my customers to let me know what they would like. I can pretty much get anything. Everyone just needs to let me know!
