Well, we were supposed to go to Villa Roma in the Catskills this summer with my Mother & Father-in law plus by brother-in-law and their family but that burned down the other day. Any suggestions for a relatively nearby place (we've got a crew from Boston as well as us here in NJ) that would be suitable for 5 kids who range in age from 3 - 13 and for older adults who like things "just so" ? Pools, decent restaurants and some nearby activities would be prefered. Tyler Place is too "roughing it" for my in-laws who have to have room service and the Times delivered each morning. |

A dude ranch? We've been to Pinegrove, but Rocking Horse is supposed to be a little more uppity. (Don't know if Pinegrove does Room Service.) It's a ton of fun for the kids and adults too. Otherwise, Nevele Grand maybe? I think it has been redone. There are also a ton of places in the Poconos. |

How about the family-friendly Caesars Brookdale in the Poconos.. right off I-80 ; less than 2 hours from SO/Map. |

Nevele Grand has been redone very nicely, but only if you stay in the main buildings. Make absolutely certain you have one of the new rooms (we did a family reunion there, and have seen all the room grades). Probably very comparable to Villa Roma in most ways. |

What about that place in PA (I think it's called the Great Lodge or something) it is huge with an indoor water park. Villa Roma burned down? Any other info on this? |

Mohonk is wonderful, but a rather different price point than Villa Roma and Nevele Grand, I think! |

Sherri, I poked around online a bit...sounds like they had a fire while doing the Passover baking Tuesday night. Destroyed the building housing kitchen, dining room, night club, offices, main lobby, etc., but not the guest rooms. http://www.recordonline.com/updates/BREAKING_NEWS-urgent-drvillaroma-04-12.html |

Split Rock Resort in Poconos or Woodloch Springs also in the Poconos. I think Woodloch is a touch more upscale. |

Thank you Susan. The Villa Roma is a large employer in that area. Many people will be out of work. It will be a big blow to the Catskill Region economy. |

Not an economy that can handle many blows, unfortunately. Let's hope that they can find a way to move forward as a hotel while rebuilding the central building. |

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have passed them on to my mother-in-law who has the final say. (Mohonk would be lovely, but way too pricey...) I agree, it is a terrible thing to happen to the Catskill's economy and I hope they are able to rebuild Villa Roma promptly. |

Check this here out: http://www.willylake.com/ Just 15 minutes north of New Paltz. We went there last year, and everybody had a good time. Especially the kids hanging out at the lakes sand beach all day long. |
