So based on suggestions here I found a beach house that sounds and looks (photos) good. Now what do I do or what do you all suggest? Before I hand over the cash, are there questions that I should ask? I appreciate this! |

You'll need to know what's supplied and what you need to bring. Usually, everything is supplied (plates, cups, utensils), except for bed linens and towels. Further, you'll need to know what kind of beds and how many of each, so you can bring the appropriate bedding (queen, full, twin, etc.) You'll need to know when they expect the first deposit and how much, and what the rest of the payment schedule will be. It may be late in the season, so you may have to pay everything all at once. Check-in and check-out time--most places are like hotels, in at 2:00, out by 11:00. Saturday to Saturday (which is more the norm) or Sunday to Sunday? Where will you pick up keys? Cleaning deposit? Most rentals want you to clean the place (more like tidy up, put out garbage, etc.--not scrub toilets and mop floors) before you leave. I think most of these questions should be answered in the description of the property. But, just in case..... |

You might also want to ask if you need beach passes--I think most NJ beaches do--and where to purchase them. Also, is there a guest policy--in case your planning on having friends visit (most houses will state the number of people they can accomodate, and stuffing in more people than specified may be frowned upon). Also, how many cars can you park? I would think most properties generally allow at least 2 cars. |
