This Summer we'd like to take our 13 month-old daughter to an amusement park we'd all enjoy here in NJ. Can anyone recommend a place on or near the Jersey Shore that is family-oriented? bklyngirl |

For a close by boardwalk with rides, Point Pleasant (exit 98) is pretty family friendly. For a family beach Avon by the Sea takes the cake in our household.

13 months is a bit young to go on many rides...but here are some that are definitely geared towared preschool aged kids: - Point Pleasant boardwalk (1-1.5 hrs) has a few rides for little ones. Good for a day trip. - Near Atlantic city (2.5 hrs) is StorybookLand that I keep trying to get to. http://www.storybookland.com/ Places other than the shore: Bowcraft (20 min on Rt 22): http://www.bowcraft.com/files/rides.htm In northern NJ (1 hr) there is Land of Make Believe which is very cute: http://www.lomb.com/ In PA (1.5 hours) if your kid likes Sesame Street: http://www.sesameplace.com/sesame/pa/index.html |

Storybook land is adorable, kitchy, well-maintained, and has lots for kids between the ages of 1 and 6, I would say. Also, if you are staying on Long Beach Island, there is a small amusement park in Beach Haven, Fantasy Island. They have a teeny train ride, some little boats and cars going around in circles. |

Sesame Place in Langhorne is wonderful for little ones. Also storybook land gets a nod from me. She is young tho. Splashing around at the beach in a plastic pool you bring in with you would be great fun. |

I always find that the simplest things are what keep the little ones happy. While all the places listed above are great, and I personally really enjoyed Land of Make Believe for smaller children, I think 13 months may be a bit young for most of these places. While I certainly understand the need to be out and about, a sprinkler or inflatable kiddie pool or even just a bucket of water can keep little ones entertained for hours. OTH, it has been my experience that big, elaborate "outings" can make everyone (including mom and dad) tired and cranky! A nice afternoon on the beach while the little one gets coated in sand can also be fun! The kiddie pool in Maplewood is nice, particularly in light of the fact that mom can get some yummy snacks from Freemans! Just my 2 cents! |

Bowcraft if perfect for kids that age. When my son was about 2, he said, "Wow! This is like DisneyWorld!" He had never been to Disney, but the small Bowcraft amusement park was so amazing and exciting to him that in his young mind nothing else could be bigger or better. |
