Hi, my parents are going to babysit for our toddlers for a weekend in June - yay! Looking at 2 nights away, so don't want to go too far - will be going by car and I don't want to waste our free time on too much travel. So, any recos? We like romantic bed & breakfast inns, fun towns that we can walk around, good restaurants. What about the shore? We don't want to break the bank though and I know "in season" can get pricey. Thanks! |

Cape May is fabulous and one of my favorite places on the Jersey Shore, or just about anywhere for that matter. However, it may be a bit late for you to book for June. I'd start calling around now. There are zillions of B&B's for every budget. Places we've stayed: The John F. Craig House The Mainstay Congress Hall Any Google search will turn up dozens of places. Good luck.

Thanks so much for the recos. We booked 3 nights (!) at the John F. Craig house for June - looks wonderful. I wanted to thank you so you don't think your post went into a black hole! Can't wait! |

Great! Thanks for letting me know. Would love to know how your trip was when you get back. I don't mind if my suggestions go into a black hole. You're free to take them or leave them, but I'm glad they were helpful. Another suggestion: hopefully you're heading down on Friday and can leave in the A.M. Traffic during that time of year can be treacherous and it may be a good idea to get a jump on everyone else, and avoid "rush hour" (both morning and evening) at all costs. With no traffic it's about 2 1/2 hours. Last year when we went down on a Saturday in August (no choice because most house rentals are Saturday to Saturday), it took us almost 5 hours! Restaurants I can recommend: Definately 410 Bank Street, but you'll probably need to drive (not far, but too far to walk). For basic, down home, tasty Jersey Shore seafood, The Lobster House, again just a short drive, but too far to walk. There are plenty of great restaurants in town you can walk to. Frieda's is one. Also, the restaurant in Congress Hall, The Blue Pig, is worth a try, and walkable from John F. Craig. Many, many people recommend and quite enjoy The Washington Inn, although I wasn't all that impressed. |
