Has anyone tried this? Have you found people who would like to stay in a lovely Maplewood home and make their home in an exotic beach-front location available for a one or two week vacation? Are there websites to facilitate these swaps? Or am I dreamin'?

There are. I have a friend who travelled the world a fair bit by doing this. Let me find out from her what the organizations or websites are. She is living in New Zealand, so it may be a while until she replies to my email. There is a 20 hour time difference.

I believe someone in our neighborhood did this with a family from France with good results.

Tom ???????

That makes it 1:20 pm. Why do emails take longer crossing the international date line?

Go to newjersey.craigslist.com and click on the housing swap link. I check this out all the time and would seriously consider doing a swap. You can also go to other craigslists sites, e.g. boston.craigslist.com, to see what's posted. I found our summer Ireland vacation rental there! Craigslist has sites all over the world.

I just looked at newyork.craigslist.com and there seems to be more listings there. That may be a good place to start.

The mail is delivered right away, but I think my friend checks only once a day, and I'm not sure at what time. Still no word back from her.

I have heard of people swapping wives, but not homes.

I went to CraigsList and found a few interesting possibilities plus I posted our house available for swapping. Thanks for the tip.

How would you know that you are getting what they say you are getting?

I just checked out your post on newyork.craigslist.com and it sounds enticing. I'm sure it will generate some interest. Keep us posted!
