It's always interesting to hear what people suggest, or think is a good wine at a decent price point. What is your current favorite red or white wine at about $10, and why? Right now I like a white Austrian wine, a gruner veltliner, called Gobelsburg. Nice depth, not overly-oaked, a nice mineral component, and very food friendly. |

Total wine - West Orange.. French sparkling "Baron Cristal". I like the extra dry... this is $5.99 a bottle. Served chilled, everyone I have taste tested this on has put it in the $25+ range.... Not one person believed me when I told them the cost.

I picked up a Red Tail (merlot I believe) off the cheapo wine shelf at King's last year for under 9 bucks. After letting it breathe a little it blew away a $20 bottle I got and was highly recommended at a winestore. I went back the Kings a couple of weeks later to try and find it and they no longer had it. Was left annoyed. |

Have always been a big fan of KJ chardonnay. Recently, quite by accident, I discoverd Yellow Tail chardonnay (Australian), which is equally as yummy, but only $7.99 a bottle and I can grab it up at the liquor store in town. Took 3 bottles for a girls weekend away, and didn't come close to breaking the bank! |

Beringer Pinot Grigio-the large bottle goes for 10.99 I believe. Discovered it by accident and now it's a staple at our house. Whenever we serve it to guests they can't believe it's Beringer. Neither can we For sweeter white Beringer makes a good Gewurtztraminer for around $10 and for drier Gewurtztraminer go for Hogue or Fetzer.

I like LaCrema Chardonnay. Hints of vanilla with a buttery finish. Price at Total Wine is the best, $12.67. Yum! |

My recent favorite is Chateau de Lascaux, Coteaux de Languedoc, from limestone soil north of Montpellier. First picked it up because it's a Kermit Lynch import, so you know it's going to be good or, at least, interesting :-) Blanc Classique 2004 ($8-$10) Just gorgeous. A blend of Marsanne, Roussane and Rolle the wine has a very intense floral nose with hints of peaches. Medium body, full in the mouth (can stand up to substantial food), round but not overpowering, minerally, very good length. Lip-smacking good :-) Rouge Classique 2003 ($10-$12) 70% Syrah, 30% Grenache. You can smell the hot chalky soil. Velvety black fruits, roasted coffee, that Southern France herbs and spices, soft tannins and good acidity makes it very juicy. Great with food. Another huge, white favorite -- for around $8 -- is Eric Solomon's 2004 Con Class from Rueda (Spain). I believe that it's a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Verdejo. This is a killer summer wine -- has the gorgeous acidity and freshly-cut hay of SB on the nose, with added ripe apricoty/peachy sweetness, creaminess and extra body of Verdejo. Yummy! Enjoy! I tried the Pindar Pythagoras (red table wine), it was ok, but the cabernet port they do is mindblowing. I think it's about $24 a 750ml bottle... it doesn't last very long - it must evaporate...
Yum... |

"Goat Roti" is something like goat-meat toast/bread in some places! 8) BTW, I meant Yellow Tail earlier, not Red Tail. |

Hi, David, I travel frequently to Chicago and have been bringing/shipping the 3 wines back from Fox & Obel (http://www.fox-obel.com/market/winespirits.asp). Since Illinois is a reciprocal state and NJ pretty relaxed (plus, shipping yourself to yourself is no problem; I use FedEx). However, I just checked with Wine Searcher and PJ Wine (www.pjwine.com) in the city has the Con Class for $5.99! Also, both Chateau de Lascaux bottlings are available at the Wine Chateau in Metuchen (http://www.winechateau.com). Cheers! BlueHeeler |

A really nice red for $10 or under is also : tuttobene from tenimenti Angelini 2004 vintage About $8.99 This is an Italian red blend that is very food friendly, doesn't have a harsh aftertaste, as some cheaper bottlings do, and has very mild tannins. A nice bottle to try with Italian food, pizza, steak, chops, etc.. |

I don't know the exact names of the wines, but check out "Coyote Creek" range of wines in Total Wines. I have tried a blush and a white and they are amazing and all below $10. |

Almost any Argentine Malbec will leave enough dark legs on the glass that you'll wonder if it will ever be transparent again. The Argentinian vineyards produce great product but with poor consistency of quality. They have about five years of work ahead of them to be as consistent as Chilean vineyards. Also around $10 try the Morellino di Scansano (r) or the Vermentino di Sardegna (w) for taste, fulsomeness, and a bargain. There's a lot going on in both of those wines: two Italian wines that grace any table. IMHO. |

Now the weather is warming up a bit, I'm enjoying a Pinot Grigio-Chardonnay mix from Cline. I first tried it out at their winery in Sonoma, and then discovered that the local Total Wine (up here in West Orange) keeps it in stock. Good stuff, goes for around $10. Another interesting white is the South African Indaba Chardonnay - a very pleasant taste. Goes for about $8 a bottle. ... and to the Notorious S.L.K. - you're not alone. I enjoy the Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio as well. Jason |

The first one that comes to mind is the "big brother" of the previously mentioned "Goats do Roam", which is called "Goats Do Roam In Villages". About $10 on sale at Wine Library. I can't recommend this one highly enough. ALso consistent good bargain is the Colossi - a red Italian table wine available at Wine Library for about $8. |
