 Hi,

Does anyone know where locally I can buy Oak and other types of wood chunk for a smoker? I've checked out Depot and Lowes, and they only seem to stock Mesquite and Hickory.

 Thanks!

We got some Oak chips at ShopRite on Morris Ave last summer. I haven't looked for it since, tho.

find a neighbor with fruit trees and get green apple, pear, or cherry wood and cut it in small chunks. if you have a grape vine, cut some of the wood

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck

Thanks for the suggestions so far - I have looked at a few websites, however they seem to be quite expensive. I did order 10lbs of Mesquite and Hickory from Bass Pro for $4 a pop + shipping (order came to about $15 for two bags + a new water pan for my smoker).

I am going to check out a couple of local garden centers that people recommended on another site - there's a place up on Rt 46 (I'm in West Orange, so this isn't too far away) that supposedly carries a selection of wood chunks.

... and I'll see if any of my neighbors have fruit trees! If they do, I'm sure I can ply them with some smoked ribs

 Thanks again!

Last year, I think, HD carried oak chunks. One place to go is http://www.barbecuewood.com.

What kind of smoker do you have? I've got a Weber Bullet Smoker that is one bad larry.

Richard - thanks for the link!

Yes - my wife got me a Weber Smokey Mountain for my birthday last month. Just christened it last weekend with some chicken (was keeping it easy for the first time!). Looking forward to doing some ribs, and eventually doing my first overnight. A colleague of mine got his last year, and brought in some of the brisket he cooked on it - it was absolutely awesome!

I'm sure you're already familiar with www.virtualweberbullet.com - there's some serious weber users on there!

We moved to Maplewood last year and we got both the Weber bullet and a nice Weber kettle. The smoker is pretty amazing. I haven't done an overnight smoke, but have done ribs on it and have been itching to do a turkey! Have fun with it!
