I am looking for bread bakeries in the area.

I know of Cait & Abby's. Are there others in our neighbourhood?

btw - Cafe Monet bakes their own baguettes - awesome.

The best bread is at Orange Sanitary Bakery. Check them out.

Orange Sanitary is great but Panera Bread in Essex Green - West Orange or on Morris Tpke. in Springfield makes great bread too - and a lot of varieties. Personally, I trek over to Newark on 1st & Bloomfield Aves. to Calandra's Bakery. They have been there for YEARS and has got to be the best bakery around!

Calandra's is good and you can buy 2-3 baguette varieties at Kings.
Also -- Freeman's fish market sells excellent bread - don't remember who the bakery is.

The bread at Cranes Bakery is phenomenal. The Pane Pugliese is better than any bread at any bakery around here. I've been to Calandra's a few times. It's not as good (although a very different style) as the Pane Pugliese, IMO. And Cranes is a HECK of a lot closer to get to.

At the Wine Library you can get bread from Sullivans Bakery in NY! It is incredible! Im an old time Colandras fan as well but now I only have to go to the Wine Library for incredible bread. (and cheese, and chorizo....)

Thanks for the heads up Boomie, just to let you know the bread at Cranes is also from Sullivan Street Bakery. It's the best.

I second Calandra's (there is a Fairfield location as well), but if you're in a hurry, Sanitary is the best.

I'll have to try the Wine Library after the above review, however!

If you want great Italian bread go to Mia Famiglia in Millburn on Main Street, otherwise go directly Niccola in Montclair.

New World catering and food boutique has some terrific breads as well. Their tahini tuna panini was out of this world!!!! Also, they have somebody making fantastic desserts that I was not expecting in town.

Thread Drift:

Wine Library is also selling cheese now! They have Parmesean Reggiano (sp?) for $9.99 a pound. Great Price.

I go to Cranes for the Sullivan Street breads though - he has even ordered special stuff for me when I request it.

WE NEED AN ARTISANAL BAKERY (or a branch of one) IN TOWN!

I think that Wine Library only carries bread on the weekends.

Mia Famiglia has great Italian bread and specialties.

Whole Foods has a decent assortment of breads.

Sonny Amsters in the Millburn Mall...but they are supposedly getting kicked out of their location soon.
