My wife's aunt is in town and my wife is taking her to a show this Saturday. I'd like to find a restaurant fairly near by that would accomodate us and a picky eater (my 7 y.o.). I'm thinking Carmine's but we just ate there last month. Any suggestions that would be similar? There would be six people in all.

Thanks

TS and I ate at becco and really enjoyed it. I'd say that's a good call.

Thank you. I've eaten there before and it was very good - I'd forgotten about it.

Sorry Hank - was looking for dinner. Kind of casual.

If you're going to be in the theatre district and are looking for a casual place with decent comfort type food the following are good; Joe Allen on 46th between 8th and 9th,West Bank Cafe on 42nd between 9th and 10th and Madeleine on 43rd off 9th. Jezebel on 45th and 9th has good fried chicken and southern food. If the theatre is further up town Thalia on 50th and 8th is good.

I do like Ruby Foo's, but would not recommend it for a 7 year old picky eater. I would recommend Joshua Tree on 46th between 8th and 9th. They are used to doing the pre-theatre meal as well. It's more casual than a place like Thalia or Becco - more like Carmine's but without the long wait.

Thanks again all. Wife decided to go to Virgil's. Becco was the first choice but we couldn't get a reservation there. My wife and her aunt are going a 2:00 pm show and I will be meeting up with her in the city later.

Virgil's is safe enough, though not much atmosphere. It'll do.

On 9th Avenue (btwn 45th and 46th on West side of street) there is a grilled cheese shop called Say Cheese. Perfect for a youngster. I love the food there. Very reasonable, tasty and casual.

I love the food at Virgil's. A guilty pleasure. I wish it weren't such a tourist trap so I wouldn't have to be a closet fan.

I used to really, really love Virgil's, before a whole bunch of other bbq places opened in the city. Virgil's doesn't smoke anything on site, and while I still think it's very good, I now prefer places like Blue Smoke or RUB, on 23rd street. Daisy May, as well, if you happen to be driving toward the Lincoln Tunnel, is fantastic for bbq.

Virgil's isn't the most sanitary although you're probably going today (saturday). I nce found a roach in my menu upon opening it. I'm not that squirmish and still ate there believ it or not. I find it expensive for what you're getting though. You can get the same stuff at Churches on SPringfield for half the price.
