I was shopping at Costco today and on the way out I picked up a Costco travel brochure.

Has anyone ever booked anything through them? How much of a saving would one typically make or is it basically the same price as booking through an airline site or Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia, Hotels.com etc.?

Were they reliable too?

I booked a cruise through them a few months ago. My aunt cruises once or twice a year and she gave me the names of all of her contacts—she ALWAYS gets the best price! Royal Caribbean doesn't discount, so you get the same price no matter who you call, however, with 5 people in our party (2 cabins) we saved a few hundred on travel insurance plus we will get some kind of basket in our rooms. Recently they called me to let me know they applied my hundred dollar discount, I have no idea why, but I'm not complaining...that's two bottles of wine.

As with anything, if you want the best price you have to do your HW. It is a call center, so you don't have a specific agent helping you, but for us, it was a good deal.

Also, sometimes prices go down. I called a month after we booked and prices had gone up significantly! My aunt said she has gotten credit for calling about lower prices on a slower selling cruise.

Hey, VIGSHH, it's nice to know you drink $50 bottles of wine! Is that on board or chez vig?...;-D

I had a gift cert left from Christmas and bought a $50 bottle of wine which I rarely do...one of my favorites, Shafer merlot. Yeah, merlot, and girl, is it delicious, Sideways notwithstanding! Wonder when we'll drink it...maybe a datish kind of night at home with my beloved.

Cruise and imbibe well, all.

David

PS Thanks for nice words re frozen treats...got good suggestions from thread.

David, I do not normally drink $50 bottles of wine, but on a cruise, bottles are marked up so much...our last cruise we decided to splurge and drink Sterling. What we can buy here from $15-$20 we paid over $80 on the ship! It was one of those days, the kids were nutso and we wanted a nice wine with dinner, so we went for it. The waiter wouldn't open it, so we had to wait for the hostess, then she started to put it into a decanter...ugh...we couldn't believe what we had to go through to drink that wine!

I'm a cheap drinker normally (for during the week drinking, when I want a glass after a crazy day), mr Vig has threatened me not to buy any more Trader Joe red wine. He bought me a few bottles of Yellowtail this week.

A good Merlot sounds delish...enjoy! (And just remember that $50 bottle would be $150 shipboard!)
