Never been to HH but have heard nothing but rave reviews. Looking for suggestions on condo units that must be on teh beach. I know I know but we're on vacation and I need to be on the beach. It's the deal for moving to NJ. Please share your suggestions. thanks! |

It is beautiful in its way but definitely not my style. I am from that part of the world, and they say there that HH is for 'the newly wed, the overfed, and the nearly dead.' Very country clubby. |

What part of that part of the world, mim. My parents are in Beaufort, which is gorgeous, but definately not on the beach (sorry MTM). Hilton Head isn't really my cup of tea either. Went to a really fabulous place a little further south, a few years back, called Little St. Simon's Island (off the coast of St. Simon's Island in Georgia). It's a privately owned island and nature preserve with a small, limited amount of rooms/cabins, a really great main cabin which is where you eat all your meals (which are fabulous, BTW) and lots of activities. I'll never forget the oyster roast they had our first night there. Gorged on oysters, which were fabulous, and washed them down with a yummy chardonnay! Needless to say I was well and truly plastered before we even made it to the dinner table. The accomodations are on the river side of the island, but it's only a short trip to miles of empty, private beach. And if I remember correctly, they have bikes you can use. You can only access the island by boat. We went without kids, but it'd be a great place to bring kids. http://www.littlestsimonsisland.com/ Just a thought. |

I did most of my growing up in Georgia, so HH was my back yard. I'm not really the beachy type, but if I had to do a shore vacation, I'd look for the least built up place on the eastern seaboard. IS there such a place anymore? Pawley's Island used to be like that, as did the Outer Banks. Also the St. Simon's/Jekyll Island part of the Georgia coast, and some of the Florida Gulf (where I also grew up). I doubt that deserted beaches exist these days! (Beaufort is beautiful -- not beachy at all; more low-country.) |

100% lowcountry, and I love it. The scenery, the food, the smells, the historic homes, the people, the art. |
