Just wanted to acknowledge the incredible hospitality shown by Pete at Park Wood Diner. I, along with Steve Tugentman (and help from some other parents from time to time), coached the M/SO Rec Division 3 girls softball team sponsored by the Park Wood Diner. When we told Pete that we took first place and wanted to celebrate the end of the season at the diner he was very excited. When we arrived after the last game he had hand made signs taped to all the windows that said "Congratulations Softball Champs". He then gave the girls and their parents all the french fries, chicken fingers and drinks they wanted. He also had an ice cream cake made decorated with a softball and glove and the words "Congrats Park Wood Diner Champs". This was all very unexpected and, while we tried, he wouldn't accept any money.

Thank you for the terrific food, great hospitality and for being such a great sponsor for the softball program.

Wow... what a great story. I love to hear about businesses that go above and beyond the basic sponsorship of the teams, but this is really over the top. What a great "Mayberry" ending to a fantastic season for your team.

It's a great story and a great place.

However, I wonder if there may be some sense of unfairness on the part of members of other teams whose sponsors don't do likewise ...

My son's T-Ball team is sponsored by South Orange Chiropractic and I, for one, am up for some free back work!

Seriously, anyone who sponsors a team deserves major kudos whether or not they throw a party at the end of the season. Yay sponsors!

Yeah, my son's t-ball team was sponsored by Modern Auto Body--I want some free work done on the dents in our cars!! Isn't that part of the sponsorship?

I posted this because I was very impressed by Park Wood's sense of community spirit and how excited Pete was that the team he sponsored did so well. But all of the sponsors (for baseball and softball) deserve major kudos. We could not have successful programs without them. Here is a list of the businesses, organizations and individuals who sponsored teams for the Maplewood/South Orange Girls Softball program (sorry I don't have the baseball list):

 Bagel Chateau
 Village Ice Cream Parlour
 Caribbean Cuisine
 Ambiance Jewelry
 March Kids Shoes
Anthony Garubo Salon & Day Spa
 Marine Agency
 Arturo's
 Roman Gourmet
 Quick Chek
Maplewood-South Orange Sewer & Drain Cleaning Inc.
 Summit Physical Therapy
 Sterling Properties
 SaveOurSouth Foundation
 OLS Athletics
 Signal Graphics
 South Orange Disposal
 Moods in Hair
Bauman All Stars (Drew Bauman, ESQ)
 Park Wood Diner

A very huge thank you to each and every one of them.

Freebies are not part of the deal, mwoodwalk. If a sponsor throws them in, it's not to make anyone feel begrudged or to make another sponsor look bad.

Tom, I was joking (just playing along with the theme); I obviously need to work on making the sarcasm in my posts more obvious.

That's OK. At the same time, I'll work on improving my Sarcasm Detector(tm).
