We are renovating our kitchen, so have no way of doing any kind of cooking inside. We usually grill during the calmer nights, however, once it is my husband and my father-in-law that are working on the kitchen, grilling is not always an option since everyone is pretty busy with the renovation work to be worrying about grilling.
We've tried some frozen dinners but we hated it.
I tried buying already cooked foods at Whole Foods and I always use it as a back up, however I'm looking for some variety.
I'm pregnant and dying for some good food (no more canned soups or slices of pizza!)
Do you have any suggestions of where can I find some good, already cooked, homestyle foods in the area? (Not too expensive would be best).
(My FIL seems to only like pretty "standard foods" - chinese food doesn't even seem to be an option).
I would appreciate any suggestions. I'm running out of ideas!
Thank you so much!

Crane's also do dinners through the week (Or maybe M-F, can't remember). They have a flyer in the store letting you know what the dinner is that night. I haven't tried this, but judging by the quality of the other food there, I am sure it will be delicious. I think pick-up is after 4pm, but you would need to check on this..

Congrats!

Believe they will be open till end of the month.

Shoprite in Livingston (on S. Livingston Ave just off Northfield) has a huge selection of prepared foods that are far superior (in my humble opinion) to those of Kings. Also have very reasonably priced roasted chickens (generally $3.99 - 5.99 per chicken, not per pound as King's prices them) and roasted turkey breast (turkey but not the chicken is a bit salty for my taste). You can get things like turkey meatloaf, grilled chicken breasts, grilled veggies, grilled asparagus, teriyaki salmon, meatballs, etc. Good salad and fruit bar as well.

And if you're heading up Northfield, Livingston Bagel (on Northfield just before South Livingston Ave) has a very large selection of prepared foods as well, a bit pricier than Shoprite but very good. Chicken marsala, chicken in garlic sauce, stuffed cabbage, ribs, chicken cutlets. Recently expanded, it's a bagel and appetizing store, deli, and more. http://www.livingstonbagel.com/index.html

Is Tabatchniks closing? What's going on at the Millburn Mall? Are they just refacing?

Staples is coming in. Tabatchnik's and Sonny Amsters are closing. There's a thread about this somewhere here.

Parkwood Diner on Springfield does take out and delivery. They have some fancier items, but also basics at very reasonable prices. Hint: Most of their entrees can be shared by 2 reasonably hungry adults. Meaning meatloaf, pot roast, chicken dishes. I like the greek stuff, and it's plentiful.

Also, Village Trattoria is quite good on Italian entrees (beyond the usual lasagna, shells, etc.) They do take out.

And if you get a ParkWood Diner lunch special, you usually get soup and a beverage with it! all for about $8-9!

Cynicalgirl is right, the lunch specials can be shared by 2 adults.

We will definitely miss Pete during the summer vacation. (We have lunch delivered from PW almost every day, but the school year is just about over.)

Friends of ours bought a super-cheap electric stove to use during their kitchen reno, then gave it to us to use during our gut renovation. It was great, so if this is an option, I'd seriously consider it, even though the cooking will be minimal due to lack of nearby water and the problem with those dirty dishes being washed in the tub. Our contractor guys hooked it up in the dining room for us, and we had the new fridge in use in the study.(We have since passed the stove on to another household via MOL, so we've lost track of it.)

Minimal cooking is required with this service in East Hanover (you can get 6-12 meals at a time.) http://www.supersupperseasthanover.com
