22 West (next to the old Wiz flagship store across from Costco on Rt 22) has closed, and there's a new restaurant called Rio 22 opening up in its spot. It's billed as an all you can eat Brazilian BBQ (rodizio) and Sushi place. Yeah, i'm skeptical too. And with the ironbound section so closeby, i'm not sure how well it'll do, but i do love rodizios.

They have a website (www.rio22.net) and i just got an email "invitation" to a wine tasting and cocktail reception for $50/person ($60 at the door) to benefit the Hyacinth AIDS Foundation on June 27. So i guess they're opening fast. If anyone is interested in attending the reception, the number to call for more info is 732-246-0204 x256.

I KNEW 22 West wouldn't last long!!! When I saw that building going up, and then realized it was a RESTAURANT, I thought, how can something THAT big on Rt. 22 do enough business to stay afloat. A rodizio... maybe, but I think only a chain restaurant is going to do well enough to succeed in that large of a space.

I ate there once. Once was enough. It was overpriced and too flashy. The use of the space inside was terrible IMHO.

If the food is good, and not too pricey, I think the new place should do well.

I guess it will be a low carb lover's dream.

I don't know about you but when I think Brazilian food I think Sushi!

And all you can eat too! Buffets are so yummy and fresh!

Good luck Rio 22! (Adding 22 make the name of the place soooo attractive!)

Is Rodizio the same concept as churrascaria?

Suzanne - a churrascaria is a Brazilian or Portuguese steakhouse. A rodizio is a churrascaria that specializes in the all-you-can-eat, i'll signal you when i'm full type of service. So Carla, it's not really a stretch to think of all you can eat when you think about Brazilian food.

We have visited the Greenfield Churrascaria in Hackensack, and would love to find a location closer to home. Thanks for the clarification.

The whole sushi and brazilian food together makes me think the brazilian food will not be authentic. If I go there might be just to try out, but I think I will continue to go to the Ironbound to eat where the local brazilians eat and be served by Brazillian people.

(BTW, now that the world cup is going on, if you go to the Ironbound on a day that Brazil wins, you will see the most yellow and green shirts and flags together you've ever seen in a huge samba celebration! It's like you're in Brazil in February celebrating Carnaval!)

I recently received a printed invitation to a "Chiaroscuro" party which I was looking forward to because I thought it was a "Churrascaria" party, which I would love. I assumed that it was spelled differently because it was in a different language. Anyway, to make a "long story short" (hint) I was wrong. The party has nothing to do with steak. Can anyone guess what kind of party I was invited to?

Having been to Brazil several times, I would disagree that sushi & BBQ don't go together. All the big BBQ places in Rio and Sao Paulo all have sushi. I had some fabulous sushi in Rio earlier this year.

Elaine, an art gallery event? a party in a photo gallery? a party during sunset?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiaroscuro

Art may nurture the soul, but I suspect one would walk away from a Chiaroscuro party rather hungry...
