I have to organize my sister's "bachelorette" dinner (I put it in quotes because it's not exactly going to be the type of event where she traipses around wearing a veil and tries to collect men's underpants). Ideally, downtown NYC...someplace moderately priced, intimate is good as long as a festive group of about 10 can be accommodated. I am so out of the loop, I'm at a loss. Any ideas? |

Try Grace's Trattoria on 71st and 3rd ave. It is the locals favorite. The restaurant is owned by Grace Balducci from the original Balduccis in the city on 6th Avenue. The menu is great, the food is great, there are parking garages next door and accross the street. Grace's marketplace is right next door. A great find, reasonably price and accommodates most party sizes. 212.452.2323 |

Puglia's in Little Italy is lots of fun for big groups. The food is good (not GREAT)...it's more about the atmosphere there. Very reasonably priced. Son Cubano in the meatpacking district is another fun place...good food...a little more expensive...but not too steep.

I've got a few good recommendations for just that sort of thing. Crispo on 14th Street is very good and has space(s) to accomodate a large party. I've been there several times with a large group 8-10 people and it's always been the perfect choice. The food is quite good too and I am very particular about that sort of thing. http://www.crisporestaurant.com/ Also, I like Lupa (on Thompson Street) very much. It is one of Mario Batali's places and the food is very fresh and simple. They too have space for large parties. http://www.luparestaurant.com/ Finally, Ixta on 29th b/w Park & Madison is Mexican and the food is really good, IMO. We went there for my sister's "bachelorette" dinner (just a group of 8 of us out to eat) and we loved it. Great mojitos, festive , but not over the top. http://www.ixtarestaurant.com/ Hope these help... |

Ruby Foo's on Broadway and 78th. I think there's also one in midtown. Excellent Pan-Asian food, great service, very comfortable. You can get a large round table with a lazy susan in the middle. |

Pastisse in the Meat Packing District is really cute if you want to go for the French chic theme. Hmm... also Buddakhan just opened down there. Buddha Bar, Vento, Donatello (more Midtown) Koi is great also. I would say try somewhere in the MPD and then go out from there. I love Buddha Bar and it's brand new! Depends on what kind of a night you want to have. Definitely go out down there after! Good luck and have fun! |
