Has anyone tried out Per Se, Thomas Keller's place in NYC? I'm looking for a really amazing dining experience for a rare night away in the city.

What are you looking for? We went to Bar American a couple of weeks ago. Very eclectic menu, great atmosphere. Or if you are looking for more traditional Sparks is great; wonderful steak house and an AMAZING wine list.

I think Per Se is about a million miles away from Bar Americain or Sparks...
Hey if you can get the reservation and drop $5-600 for dinner I would go for Per Se.

I might to go to Daniel before Per Se. If you've already been to Daniel, give it a shot.

Haven't been to Per Se but I have been to the French Laundry, which was an incredible experience. Was it worth the money? Probably not. When it comes down to it no meal could ever be worth that much money. But it was definitely one of the great dining experiences of my life. How that translates to Per Se I don't know, since a big part of the French Laundry's appeal is the setting and the fresh local ingredients, many of which the restaurant grows itself.

Oh, and Per Se is to Bar Americain what Mozart is to "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." I mean, it's perfectly fine for lunch if you work in the neighborhood, but it's hardly a great restaurant. Not even the best (or second best) Bobby Flay restaurant.

I have been to Per Se and agree with I'm Only Sleeping. If any meal is worth that kind of money (and I'm not sure it is) Per Se is. A great and unforgettable dining experience. Daniel is also wonderful and a little less expensive. If money is no object, go with Per Se.

We left Per Se thinking our meal was not worth that kind of money. The food was delicious, but the tasting only option leaves you just beginning to enjoy a dish when it's taken away. There's maybe a little bit of pretension in announcing the provenance of the two kinds of butter on the table, too. Here's another way to look at it: For the same money, you could fly to the Napa Valley and have a delicious meal in any of a number of restaurants, including Bouchon, the delicious Thomas Keller brasserie, in one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world. Oh, if you go, watch out for the bottled water tab: Once they start pouring, they don't stop unless you ask them to. The water tab for four diners can exceed $60.
