I was thinking of taking my 3-year old daughter to her first baseball game at the Newark Bears stadium for 5:05 pm game (Yankee or Shea would be too overwhelming). Followed by dinner in the Ironbound section.
Could you recommend any restaurants that are kid-friendly in the Ironbound section in Newark?

Also, has anyone been to the Newark Bears stadium with young children? Would you recommend it? We were planning to drive there and park in the lot behind the stadium.

Thanks,

For a bigger adventure, take the train there. It's pretty direct.

I could... it's just that I take the Midtown Direct every day to work and, my three year-old does not seem very interested in trains (surprisingly).
So driving would be a break.

Additionally, if we wanted to go into the Ironbound section after the game, we would need some transportation. A car being the most convenient.

They are really all kid friendly, except some of the curraschura places that seem like mens clubs. On Ferry St Iberia is a good bet.

The Iberia Peninsula on the left side of Ferry (as opposed to the one across the street with the parking lot behind it and along side it)always has families with children there. Most of the bigger places cater to families from what I see when we are there.
Have fun!!

I took the kiddies last year to the Bears (two and three-and-a-half year old at the time). The stadium is very kid-friendly. Nice place to see a game. Laid-back, easily accessible concessions, no trouble getting seats. I have to say, though, once the cotton candy ran out, do did their interest in the game. They spent the better part of two innings running up and down the rows. Their favorite part of the day was the Bears moon jumper thing. We were gone before the fifth. But that's okay, because they spent the rest of the summer telling their friends they got to go to a real-live baseball game. Kids are funny that way. My daughter even asked to go back this summer so she can have cotton candy and jump in the bouncer. In all, worth it, especially because the ticket prices are reasonable so if you have to leave before the game's official, you won't feel too bad.

I actually think they would like Yankee or Shea better because of the crowds, activity and size of the event. Either way, I plan on jamming baseball down their throat.

(And yes, we parked in the lot behind the stadium and it couldn't have been easier.)
