To a certain extent, yes. There's a woman behind the deli counter who's particularly surely. Otherwise folks that work there are generally nice. |

Joe Amon, the store manager, is one of the nicest managers I have ever met-If you are having or have had a probelm with one of his employees, do not hesitate to tell him...the problem will be taken care of.

One of the only reasons I shop at Kings is because I know if I go to Pathmark I will have to deal with disinterested employees who are not only slow, but quick to give you the attitude that by your very existence you are infringing upon them. Not to mention the whole business of socializing amongst themselves while the lines are halfway down the aisles and there's 3 cashiers on duty. At Kings, you might pay twice as much, but at least the employees can answer questions and look at you while you're ringing up. |

Actually, I just had the unpleasant experience of more than a diffident employee at the register; rather it was a rude one. Which has not been my experience as others have noted above. Most of my experiences in the store have been great. This one was a little distrubing. I wanted to get some feedback before I decided whether to complain. Didn't want to jump the gun. |

I don't think there is a store in this world that is "perfect". I know I can always find something to complain about |

ger, Absolutely! Most of the employees are pleasant, but there are a couple -- one for sure -- that I have considered complaining about, but never did. She was rude to the customer before me in line, and then continued loudly talking about and making fun of this customer long after she'd left.

My mom has complained to me about one employee in particular for a few months and plans to complain to the manager about it. She's had several encounters with an African-American, rather heavy-set cashier, who is rude for no reason (according to my mom, anyway). Is that who you're all referring to? I haven't had any bad experiences at Kings, but wouldn't hesitate to complain to the manager if I did. bklyngirl |

Bklyngirl, I had a run in with the cashier you described. In the middle of a weekday, when there were maybe 5 customers in the whole store, I attempted to use the express lane with 17 items -- 12 of which were identical cans of cat food. She snapped at me that I had to use the regular line. So I packed up my stuff, moved to the next register and waited while someone with a ton of groceries checked out. During the wait, not one person went to the express lane, but I glared at the nasty cashier for long enough that she eventually got uncomfortable and started collecting the stacks of baskets. I didn't complain because I did technically exceed the 15 item limit, but she was ridiculous. |

quick! quick! talk to Joe Amon, who I agree is a very nice guy. Managers need to know this kind of information, as unhappy customers can lose a store a lot of money. A comment from you will help the store be a better shopping experience for everyone, and will help the employee learn how she must deal with customers if she wants to keep her job. |

I know the employee you're talking about - she's an express-line purist. If you have over 15 items, no soup for you. Everybody needs a little control, let her control the "15 items or less" rule. Don't complain to the manager about a woman who works at least 8 hours a day on her feet for minimum or slightly above minimum wage. Sometimes she's abrupt (when you break the rules), but she does her job, and a boring, repetitive go-nowhere job it is. Why heap criticism on the most defendless?

Lydia: The person we're talking about is not defendless. She's a grown woman, who can make her own decisions, making an honest living just like the rest of us. In fact, in my country, working as a cashier for a reputable, high-end grocery store like Kings is considered a very good job. I haven't had a bad experience with anyone at Kinds. But, if it's true that some employees are rude and nasty for no reason, then the manager should be made aware of it. There's no excuse for that type of behavior. bklyngirl |

I also had a bad experience with this particular cashier. I had exactly 15 items in the express lane, she held up the show by counting each item and seemed ticked off that there were actually 15 items. There were several people behind me at the time. When I went to use my Debit card she rolled her eyeballs in digust, especially when I asked for cash back. I was furious and embarassed and swore I was going to report her when I got home, but I didn't. |

Lydia-A person who is in a retail position should have good customer service skills. Their pay rate should have no bearing on the courtesy that is displayed to their customer. Having to stand up all day is not an excuse either.

I agree completely with BGS, Emmie and BklynGirl. At Whole Foods, for example, cashiers, servers, and shelf stockers stand on their feet all day also; however, it is obvious that they have been trained regarding the courtesy that Management expects them to extend to customers. In a retail / service business, especially a high-end one like King's, customer service is key. The cashier in question either needs better training or may need reassigning to a job that doesn't require her to interact with customers. I want to add, though, that rather than continue to discuss this issue online, those of us who are unhappy should talk with the manager. Otherwise, we may simply be hurting the store's business and being unfair to the employee. If she is open to improving her skills, she may enjoy her 8-hour day more (it can't be fun for her to be in such an adversarial relationship with customers all day long), and both customers and King's will benefit too. |

Anna is right------------what a miserable day it makes to be angry the whole time. I hope she doesn't get fired---------it will only serve to confirm her belief that the world is against her..........more evidence to support her anger. Hope something helps her, but they need to do something. I rarely go there, but still I know to whom you are referring. Not to hijack, but I just wanted to say that shopping at Pathmark has been much, much better the last few months.I don't know what they did about the cashiers, but they are friendly and courteous these days.

Is this the woman that sings Yolanda Adams songs while she is ringing up? She has some ego to think everyone needs to listen to her while standing in front of her. |

Thanks for the feedback. Interestingly, my "encounter" was with another cashier, not the cashier mentioned, but the principle holds. I think the posters who pointed out that communication with the manager is in order are correct. Everyone can have a bad day, but perhaps a reminder from the manager to the point people about courtesy would help. |
