Personally, I'm a big fan of filling a pot with water and heating it until it boils. Anyone have other methods? |

Electric kettle will boil it faster (at least that's how it went when I timed it against a pan with a lid on boiling the same amount of water...) Yes, I was bored and couldn't think of anything else to do at that time. |

I soak it in water, throw it on the grill and then throw it back into boiling water. Works every time. |

I always use the pressure cooker... the high pressure make the water boil faster... I am willing to participate in a water boil-off... I am sure I will win with my trusty pressure cooker... |

I had a college roommate who literally couldn't boil water. She'd set the pot on fire. |

GT - that happened to me once, but in my defense, I was passed out from a night of drinking too much. I thought having some pasta was a good idea until I passed out and woke up with the doorman and a neighbor banging on my door because there was smoke filling the hallway from my apartment.... Actually, come to think of it....that's not really the greatest defense, but at least it wasn't a sign that I was a bad cook! |

Was it in a bong or did you try it with papers? |

I had a friend who attempted to make coffee in an electric pot. Oops forgot to put the water into the coffee pot but plugged it in and away she goes. Almost caused a fire. Lesson here: no matter the boiling method, do not forget to first actually put the water into the desired vessel. |

can anyone recommend any take out options for those too busy or unsure of how to boil water? I think there may be such a demand for this that it could be a viable business in the Village or at least an added service provided by the concierge. Dust off those Thermoses! |

The fastest way for me to boil water is to take a gallon jug of it on the train. Then, when the first idiot inevitably starts shouting into his/her cell phone forcing me to sit through some excruciating business transaction or personal drivel, I put the jug on my head. Usually, within 20 seconds or so, not only is the water boiling but also steam is coming out my ears (which I've found to be useful if I decide to make cappuccino) Uhh...perhaps I need some anger managment work. |
